Our Summer Infant died after less than 2 years of light use. After doing a ton of research, I ended up buying this Levana product. The title of my review says it all. It's a decent monitor and will do the trick, i.e. letting you hear and see what your baby is up to. I would say that if it's more important for you to HEAR your baby only when there is a good reason for it, buy this monitor. But if it's more important for you to see what your baby is doing, buy Summer Infant.

What I like better about this product is the VOX function that our Summer monitor didn't have: the monitor will suppress all sounds (including static!!) unless they exceed some minimal threshold. So you will hear if your baby speaks or cries, but otherwise the monitor will stay completely quiet. This is a big difference from Summer Infant, where the sound function is basically always on. What it means is that our monitor kept picking up static, which used to wake me up 3-4 times a night. This won't happen with this product.

The big con, however, is that the picture quality on this monitor is horrendous - well below what Summer Infant's. In night vision it is very hard to make out what our kid is doing in his crib. In this respect the Summer Infant monitor, blows this product out of the water.

Levana also has a few functions that our Summer Infant didn't have (e.g. it can play kids songs and you can speak through it to your baby), but those are nice-to-haves for me.

Overall, there are surprisingly few baby video monitors in the $100-200 range that get good user reviews (I had spent a lot of time looking). If you don't want to shell out $250, this one will probably be good enough.

If you intend to use extra cameras with this model, the feature is no longer compatible with any of the cameras offered by Levana. Check the compatibility of the cameras and monitors on Levana's website. If you bought this model on or after December 1st, 2013, there are no compatible extra cameras.

We really like this monitor for these reasons:

1. The battery lasts for much longer than our previous monitor.
2. The video quality is good for the price (and really, who needs to see every minute detail of their child's face while they're sleeping? We just wanted to make sure she wasn't in an awkward position while she was learning to roll over, and can see that just fine with this monitor).
3. It hasn't died (like our last monitor).
4. It has good sensitivity. On the lowest setting, it wil turn on if she gets upset, but won't turn on if, let's say, she sighs too loudly.
5. Power save mode - I really like this feature, as it helps with #1. If you want to see the screen, all you have to do is press the power button (but not long enough to turn it off) and the screen will come on.

We do not like it for these reasons:

1. The lights! Holy moly. The power lights on both the parent unit and the camera unit are like the sun. We ended up cutting small pieces of black electrical tape to cover the lights because our daughter was very distracted by it, and because the parent unit can basically be used as a flashlight in the dark.
2. There is no option to use video only or sound only. When she makes a noise, the video screen comes on. Sometimes that happens in the middle of the night when she is just adjusting positions and partially waking up. The super bright screen then comes on and lights up our whole room ... and all for no good reason, because our daughter isn't actually waking up/needing us. Because of this, we cover the unit with a dark wash cloth at night so it doesn't needlessly wake us up.
3. I wanted to mount this to the wall, but it didn't come with anything that would really help with that.

Hello,
Thank you for your review. We appreciate quality feedback such as this and it will be shared internally for future product designs. It is extremely important though that you do not mount our camera directly on the crib. The main reason for this is that hanging cords present a strangulation hazard and therefore we must stress that our camera should not be mounted directly on a crib. Our apologies that screws were not provided for use with the holes on the bottom of the camera for wall mounting this unit. Your idea for a shelf or something similar is excellent as that should move the hanging cords to a safe distance. Thank you once again for your review.

I chose this monitor because of the other reviews....well, I was very disappointed with the night vision on the camera. The picture was VERY grainy and could not see my daughter well on her crib. I also discovered that the "jena" monitor is the same as the "sight & see" monitor. The box and directions had stickers over the "sight & see" words with "Jena". I ended up returning it.

Garbage!!! It arrived today and tonight I realize it has absolutely NO night vision capability. The screen is completely black. What a waste of money. I included a photo of the black screen.

The Item delivered on time and was as described. It has some cool features but the quality of the video is poor and the sound is not very good neither. I am a third time mom so I feel more relaxed now about not seeing the baby with detail at nights.. that's why it works for us, but if you really want to keep a close eye on your baby I probably wouldn't recommend it.

This product disappointed us in so may ways. First of all, the video is very blurry, and you can barely see the baby moving when it's at night. Also, the volume is very crappy. We can barely hear the baby's sounds, even when the baby is crying at the top of her lungs. We have adjusted the volume so many times, but it does not change anything. I will suggest you go with other products, like the Summer infant monitor, which is what we used for our first child. Although, you may pay more for the product, I believe it will serve you better than the Levana.
