I had the old design Rule pump - the one with the handle. I have an auto cover so I used the unit 100% of the time. It lasted 6 seasons and never came inside or was removed during the winter. It was frozen in snow and ice on top of the cover lots of times and keep on pumping. I picked up a replacement Rule locally BEFORE buying the Wayne from Amazon. The new design, without the handle, is seriously different from the old one. The new design pump body is smaller and the way the cord exists the top of the shell isn't so good. While the old design Rule pump worked for me it did have its flaws - the adaptor ring that allows you to hook up a garden hose broke in year #2. I wrapped it with electrical tape and hose clamped it. One of snap wings that hold the bottom debris plate didn't hold so well right from the start. As a result the bottom would come off occassionally and I ended up loosing the secondary stainless steel debris strainner in year 3. All in all - it was an acceptable set up that did last well enough, and I treated it poorlly.

After having the new design Rule in my hands I decided that for +$100 bucks I couldn't accept what clearly looked like a much cheaper design versus what I did have. Admittedly I didn't actually use the new Rule so my comments about the new design are simply my perceptions.

I bought the Wayne and visually compared the 2 before returning the new design Rule. I felt that the Wayne appeared to be a better value for the money. The pump head has a handle (come on Rule?!?!?!?), the pump motor body was larger. The way the cords terminated out of the plastic housings seemed more robust. The hose adaptor (and check valve on the Wayne) is absolutely 100% more durable than the Rule design - which like I said broke early on for me.

Pump works fast and fine. I have had 4 different pumps and this is by far the best for my inground auto-cover pool. If you are considering the Rule pump, don't. The Rule pump is a piece of trash. This pump is far superior and will last longer than one season.

This product is easy to use. Easy to guide over and around my above ground pool cover. This product has saved me a lot of work. Works great, even after the fall leaves are on my cover. It kept the water level on the pool cover at a minimum. Definitely recommend.

The pump is turned on by a float switch and turned off by a low flow stitch. The idea is to pump the water down lower than could be pumped with a float switch alone. The problem is most of the time the low flow switch turns off the flow too quickly before any flow is established. The low flow switch turns off the pump before all water is pumped off pool cover so the float switch then immediately turns on the pump again causing the motor to cycle on and off every one or two seconds and little water is actually pumped. The manufacture had no good solution for the problem. The set point of the flow switch seems to be too high and there is no adjustment. The electric motor turning on and off every second either pumping no water to less than a gallon at a time will quickly wear out the motor. On occasion it actually works properly with a good flow established from the garden hose, but this must be less than 1 out of 100 cycles. This explains many of the problems other people have posted in the reviews of this pump. Perhaps the manufacture should fix the design problem instead to telling pool owners they are abusing the pumps when they fail in less than one year.

Bought to replace a less-durable pump that had failed. Should've saved my money and just gone with this one from the beginning. Does a great job of dewatering the pool cover when needed. It is built like a tank and works flawlessly. Definitely worth the money.

I reviewed all the different pumps on amazon that fit within this category. I read all the reviews and decided that this would be the pump to purchase... and I couldn't be happier.

The pump lives up to all the hype and expectations. One thing that you will want to do is to replace the 5/8 water hose fitting with integrated check valve and install a fitting to accommodate the 1 1/4" hose barb connection with integrated check valve.

I keep the retractable pool cover on during the summer (so far) which helps with pool clean up/maintenance and the 5/8" hose couldn't keep up with the rain water removal. the 1 1/4" hose does the job.

So, one month of use so far and I'm totally satisfied.

This unit replaced a Giant pool cover pump that I left outside over winter (at Tech Support's recommendation). It works flawlessly. I like the string that is used to pull the unit up closer to the side, it feels better than pulling on the power cord. The base is easy to remove which makes clearing out the debris easier as well.

We are in love with this pool pump. It is so nice to leave it plugged in and not have to worry about turning it off. Our cover is always dry now and we don't have to stand around waiting for it finish.
