I have 3 of these little "tanks" and they are very cute. They work great as temporary homes- I got my tanks on clearance at Petsmart for about $5 each, and I use them for new bettas I have rescued until I can find bigger homes for them. These 0.5 gallon bowls can also work as a "hospital tank" if you need to medicate your betta, and are especially handy if you have a betta in a community tank. Removing the betta to this tank will keep the other fish or live plants from getting the medication.

That said, this cute little betta tank is NOT a permanent home. The recommended space for each betta is at least 2.5 gallons, although some experts say a minimum of 5 gallons. While bettas don't move particularly fast compared to other fish, they do need to move. In addition, ammonia waste builds up extremely quickly in a tank this size. To keep from poisoning your fish, you'll need to clean it daily, or at the very least, every other day. In the long run, you'll wish you had bought a bigger home with a gentle filter. It's not that much more expensive to buy a 2.5 gallon (or more) tank, and you'll be able to enjoy your betta's beauty more fully, as he'll be able to swim around more happily and show off his fins for you!

This is too small for a betta fish (or any fish). And you can get a 2.5 gallon tank for half this price at PetSmart! I know it seems counterintuitive but most pet stores and suppliers are misinformed about bettas. Learn about betta fish and their care from breeders and enthusiasts (like the Nippy Fish site), NOT sellers. To dispel some common myths about bettas:

- They do not live in small dirty puddles in the wild. The recommended tank size is 5+ gallons. They need at LEAST 1 gallon, and 2.5 gallons and up is much better.
- They shouldn't be with or near other bettas unless breeding.
- They are carnivores and need carnivore fish food. They do not eat plants, and they shouldn't eat dried pellets, flakes or freeze-dried food, which bind them up.
- They need heated water (75-80°).
- They need a clean tank just like every other fish.
- A single betta with the correct supplies for living by itself will cost about $100. Or it can live in a larger aquarium with certain types of other fish.

Hope that helps!

After purchasing a number of these, I decided they just are not big enough. Have now upgraded to way more spacious tanks. But in a pinch, these will do to house a betta short term. Just remeber you MUST do water changes everyday. And a full water change every three days or so.

This is really a very cute tiny tank for a betta fish. I really like the background, and I also like the pink rocks that they include. it seems like a lot of reviewers are saying that this is too small of a tank for a betta, I don't think that this one is too small for mine, because she is just a tiny baby one. When she's bigger I might need to upgrade a little.

The reason that I'm only giving this tank 3 stars even though I do like it, is that I don't think that it's very easy to clean. There is another tank that looks exactly like this also made by Marine Betta company that is called an "EZ Clean" tank and that is what I actually thought that I was ordering. This tank to really get it clean, you need to take your fish out and put it in a cup, then you have to take the rocks out, then you can clean the tank. The "EZ Clean" one you just pour water into the tank and all the dirty water flows out of the back into a different reservoir. I feel a little mislead because that's what I thought I was buying because these tanks look exactly alike.

I would definitely not bother to buy this tank again because I do think it's harder to clean than it needs to be.

I would never use this as a permanent home For any fish but it's perfect for a temporary home.
I have guppies and these are perfect for fry tanks. I have 4 of them with little spunge filters. I hate leaving the babies in the tiny breaded boxes and these are really cute and easy to maintain as fry tanks

Please don't put a living animal in this. It's too small for a betta, or any other fish. Too small for shrimp. If you want to put a marimo ball or some cool rocks in this, that's a fine idea. But definitely not an animal of any kind.

This tank is absolutely terrible. Imagine living your whole life in an empty closet. And not a walk in. That's exactly what your forcing your fish to do. Please be a kind person and get your Betta a 2.5 gallon tank (or more) with a heater and filter. I have 6 Betta fish that have 5 gallons each. :)

Sadly I have invested in this tank. I thought it would be okay but I guess thats not so. Sadly i may not be able to invest in a 2 gallon maybe only a 1.1. It is the half moon betta kit I think. Is this a good decision? And dont worry about my betta she will have a good tank in at least 3 days. :)
