I have 3 kids under the age of 4. The youngest is 7 months & just started pulling at his ears. He had a fever last week so I took him to the doctor thinking he had an ear infection. Nope. Nothing. So, I wanted to get an otoscope to save me dragging 3 kids to the doc all the time for nothing. My oldest is very good about me looking in his ears, so I thought I'd give it a trial on him. I was shocked!!! His tubes were out, but lodged into about a pound of wax!! He had his tubes put in over 2.5 years ago. My doc said the tubes would fall out in about a year. So who knows how long it had been like this!! I was able to use this to get the wax & tubes out. He immediately started hugging me & saying thank you! He said he could hear better & was so happy I got the "yucky" out of his ears. I am able to see everyones ears now & can tell the difference between infected and normal. It was well worth every penny!

Just what I needed. I wanted something multi-purpose that I could use to check my toddlers ears as well as on my husband who gets wax build-up. It arrived today and I was able to immediately distinguish the fluid in my daughter's ear (I knew she had an ear infection, that's what motivated me to buy this) and use the curettes to clean out some impacted wax for my husband ('cause I'm an awesome wife like that.) The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is because you have to actually swap out the otoscope head for the lighted tip which means you're still flying a little blind. I was thinking I would get the otoscope magnification PLUS the lighted tip to clean out wax. Still useful, just a little more anxiety inducing and less accurate.

If your kids, husband or significant other has an ear wax problem, this is something that I would recommend getting. Sure you can just got tot he doctor and have them remove the er wax once it's a problem and you can't hear well. But wouldn't it be easier and more of a time saver to just have one of these at home to do it yourself? As long as doing something like removing your child's er wax isn't something that will squick you out, this is a life saver. It can also be handy to check and see if your child or significant other has an ear infection, then you know you need to see a doctor. This is extremely easy to use and comes with instructions. I really like that there are pictures of what the inside of the ear looks like with different problems as well as normal, in case you don't know what to look for. I also love that this set comes in a hard case for easy and safe storage.

Firstly for all you single ladies out there: always asked on the first date if he suffered chronic ear infections as a child or has profuse ear wax issues, and if so there is no second date - got it. This is one of those things I had to learn the hard way. All 3 of our children have inherited ear issues, the first several years were horrible. I learned early on that if they looked a certain way and acted a certain way that they had an ear infection, but that isn't terribly scientific, the only way to officially diagnose an ear infection is to take a LOOK. Which is impossible without the right tool. So when I found this on Amazon I was really excited and bought one - albeit my children's pediatrician advised against it. She was concerned that I would injure the kids and not know what I was looking at. On that front she was wrong, I can very clearly see large chunks of ear wax verses inner ear tissue. I can even tell when the ear drum is swollen, admittedly swollen and infected look similar to me, but fortunately I have "the look and act" method to fall back on. This has been incredibly helpful in getting ear wax out.

My kids are super prone to getting impacted wax in their ears thanks to swim and genetics. It's difficult at times to figure out if the earache warrants a doctor visit, or simply some Debrox and an ear flushing (done with the Elephant Ear Washer Bottle with 3 tips by Doctor Easy). The Lighted Ear Curettes and Otoscope is fantastic for taking a look into my kid's ears. The otoscope comes with three tips of varying sizes, two curettes (one scoop, one loop), and the battery operated base. This unit takes two AAA batteries to operate by a push of a button. The unit is definitely not as sturdy as a professional grade otoscope, but for the price, this works perfectly well and allows you to get a good look at the eardrum. The overall feel of the otoscope is lightweight, and not too flimsy.

I'm able to easy look into my kids ears and determine if that doctor call is necessary. More often than not, all I need to do is flush out their ears. The curettes also help as they light up the ear a bit, and I'm able to *very* carefully pick out any last bits. The pieces all fit in a small plastic box and come with a cardboard sleeve that shows four pictures of the eardrum that may be helpful, if you haven't already Googled infected ears already. I would highly recommend this for any parent - it definitely will help when trying to figure out what's bothering your kid's ears!
