Worked well in a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (unibody). Not difficult to replace if you have a set of jeweler's screwdrivers. Remove the back case of the MacBook, remove three screws, maneuver an unrelated cable laying on top of the drive out of the way, and the old drive lifts out. Gently disconnect the cable's little snap connection, and it will be free from the computer. Transfer the little cable to the new drive. I suggest placing the three screws into the new drive's holes before carefully setting the new drive into the computer - they are super hard to drop into place once the drive is in the machine. Screw them in, remember to reattach the cable's snap connection, and replace the back case. It's a 30 minute job even if you haven't taken this machine apart before.

Install wasn't especially easy, but there are some nice YouTube videos on the subject that guided me. It works just fine, though, and I'm thrilled to be able to burn DVDs again on my aging 2011 Macbook Pro. After a good SD card reader cleaning (it wasn't working either), I feel like I have my whole machine back again!

More than one reviewer has noted that this Superdrive replacement has at least one screw hole which is misaligned with the frame of their MacBook Pro. I have a mid-2009 15" MBP and the screw holes align perfectly, so it seems to depend on which model you have. The unit seems to work perfectly and so far seems to be a very good replacement for my original Superdrive. It takes no more than 20 minutes to swap out, assuming you have watched one of the several instructional videos available on the Internet. The only tool you really need is a small Phillips screwdriver.

I recently replaced the DVD drive in my 13" MacBook Pro with this VeeCome drive. It performs and operates better than the factory installed Apple product which never really functioned properly even when I bought it (it was slow and didn't play several DVD discs). It finally didn't work at all, so that's when I got this VeeCome drive. It didn't need any software and it was easy to install (however, didn't come with any instructions for installation which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5... although, if you're comfortable with computer parts and installation, it won't be an issue). Great drive for the price.

The compatibility list shows my late 2008 15" unibody, however the mounting holes on the rear body cover do not match my macbook pro. I attempted to exchange the rear cover with my old optical drive, but the mounting holes didn't match the disk drive. So I installed it with only two of the three screws. It is the forward left hole that is incorrect. I could have drilled out a new hole, but two screws holds the drive securely enough. Otherwise, it is working fine and it reads a disk I was having trouble with.
