These worked as advertised on our trip to England. These are NOT power converters. They ONLY change the US style plug to a UK style plug so your item will fit into the UK outlets.
To find out if you need a power converter - look at the back/bottom or plug of your electronic. If it says it works at 110 / 240 v then you will only need these plug adapters. If it says 110v only you will need a CONVERTER + these adapters. We found that we could use these adapters alone on our laptops, phone chargers, tablets. We only needed the converter for hairdryer, straightener, electric toothbrushes. Most computers and higher end rechargeable electronics have a converter built in.

I live in central Europe and all my dual voltage appliances and devices have USA plugs. These adaptors are very solid and high quality -- not brittle. Nothing rattles or is loose. They seem unbreakable. They're also fully grounded. These particular ones have the added advantage of being able to take two plugs at the same time - one one top (USA 2-pin only), and one on the end (many kinds including 3-pin). The design of the end seems able to take many different design plugs, but I have only used these adaptors with the regular "everywhere" two-pin European-style plug and the USA 2-pin and 3-pin plug. You can buy these with complete confidence.

I took both adapters with me to China..one to use on my netbook and one for charging my Color Nook. Both adapters have performed seamlessly. Anyone planning a trip to China should consider purchasing these adapters. Not only do they work well but the cost is so much lower than the ones I saw in the two discount chains prior to purchasing.

These are a purely mechanical means of converting a U.S. plug to one that will fit in U.K. electrical outlets. They do not convert the voltage.

They are well constructed and work exactly as you would expect.

If you are only wanting to charge electronics such as cell phones, camera batteries, Kindles, tablets, etc., then this is all you need -- because those devices can be plugged into anything from 100 volts to 220 volts, at 50 or 60 hertz. I.e. they work with any international voltage, so all you need to do is have a way to plug them in to foreign outlets.

If, on the other hand, you have non-electronic devices such as hair dryers, straighteners, or anything that only says "110/120 volts, 60 cycles" then this is *not* the right product. You will need something that not only fixes the plug incompatibility, but ALSO something that converts the voltage.

This review is for the "OREI 2 in 1 USA to South Africa Adapter Plug (Type M)".

I'm in Johannesburg now on a work trip and I just tried to remove it from the wall (for the first time since buying it). It separated in two, leaving the metal prongs still fully in the electrical socket and internal metal electrical connectors exposed in a highly dangerous manner. Fortunately the electrical socket I was using was switched - there are sockets here which are not switched and are always live. If you live in the USA, bear in mind that the 220V used here in South Africa (or indeed in Europe for equivalent adaptors) is far more dangerous than your 110/115V.

The amount of force I used was so low that the metal prongs did not even move from the socket - the unit separated before that could happen. Looking at the internal construction, the only things holding the adaptor together are 3 plastic clips. These didn't even break during the separation - a light force simply defeated them. Furthermore the nature of the design is such that in the event of this happening, the live (if the switch is on) metal connectors are exposed in a way that is very easy to touch, and which makes it very difficult to remove the failed adaptor safely if it is in an "always on" socket.

This purchase was a set of 2 adaptors and the other one has not failed. Having experienced the above, I feel that the design of the product is so poor that I will bin the other one and look for something more robust (prefereably held together using screws or similar). I accept that manufactured products can fail from time to time, but it is not acceptable for this to result in as dangerous situation as I experienced here.

(I took various photos of the broken adaptor but the new format reviews page does not seem to allow me to add them.)

High quality plug adapters at a bargain price. These work not only as a basic adapter but as a dual-plug "double adapter" for some plugs including U.S. This was very handy for plugging in my US cell phone charger and my US CPAP machine in a single bedside outlet. The multi-nation inputs also allowed use of my UK phone charger while in Italy; while this makes them slightly larger than some adapters they are still compact for packing. I was impressed by the sturdiness of the design, they are not flimsy. This design is fully safety grounded, allowing the use of 3-prong grounded-type plugs (US and UK) in Italy; most adapters only allow 2-prong ungrounded. I would recommend these (and by reputation, the similar OREI European adapter)
