I have tried this machine over and over with my own ingredients and packaged bread mixes. I have followed the directions very carefully and each time the bread only rises about 3/4 of the way up the pan. I called tech services who were useless. I stuck it on a shelf and forgot about it. I tried it again yesterday and it did the same thing. I assume the temperature is off, but now it's too late for a return. It was < $50 so I'm not hysterical, but I would really like a machine that works. Now I'm afraid to try another one.

Update 8/3/2013 After I posted the original review I was contacted by a B&D rep. He was very nice and immediately sent me a replacement. The new one works great and I'm very happy.

I bought it to knead my bread, since my wrists are failing. It does a good job of that, and I'm happy. I will use it to bake when I am not making sandwich bread, but I prefer the normal loaf for that.

I never used a bread machine. Have no knowledge of how to make bread... And hey I still don't need to. The machine is made nice for the price. It's simple to use instruction manual didn't mislead me. The recipe in book was accurate. The recipes I've found online have worked perfect. The machine kneads the dough then beeps to remind me to add more ingredients if needed. It heats and bakes a perfect loaf of bread. Light crust is light colored crust medium crust is medium colored crust. I have no desire for a dark crust haven't tried it. Used the white rapid button excellent bread. The loaves bake to the top window of my machine. The bread slide right out. The kneading paddle has only stuck one time. But hey I understand that may happen. I'm over all so satisfied with machine I can't believe it....Thanks Black And Decker my Great Uncle retired from a Great Company he was proud of BD . I like this product a lot.

This is my fifth BD breadmaker. I bought it for its size and weight. My big convection model takes up too much room. Three pound makers are now the norm so was thrilled to find this itty bitty one for travelling. Will survive a 7 minute power outtage which is a great feature when you are camping and boating.
My only concern is inserting the breadmaker. Find it hard to get the right angle and handle seems flimsy. Also it advertises two loaf sizes but see no instructions or settings for the one pound loaf.
Not many recipes enclosed but the internet has thousands. I especially like the site where you can download various BD bread maker manuals. Find their recipes to be fool proof.

The bread machine is good and easy to use. The instruction booklet could have been better though, it is a little vague. There are many more recipes that can be found online at least, but it would be nice if the booklet included more recipes and information. We have been enjoying being able to eat warm, fresh made bread whenever we like. Delicious

I was excited to get this machine the other day as I am gluten free and finding a bread I like is difficult. The kneading cycle worked perfect but then the unit hardly became warm even for about an hour and 10 minutes and then attempted to go into the bake cycle for about 45 minutes or so. I ended up with bread that never rose more then a 1/4 inch that had perfect outer crust but completely uncooked middle. I am very disappointed in this. I would exchange it and though I did not buy it here on amazon and got it at Target my store no longer carries this brand. I am sure that this one is defective and I have only tried it 3 times with the same results every time. If it is suppose to do nothing for an hour not even warm up what is the purpose of this?

As soon as I got this product, I was excited to use it since it was my first bread maker ever and was looking forward to the freshly baked bread smell that is supposedly amazing.
Everything was easy, putting all the ingredients into the bread pan and then setting the program to #1 then finally press start. Seems simple enough, so I let the unit run for it's 3:29 hours.
The machine started to knead the dough nicely, so I just let it do its own thing and went to do something else. I decided to check back in 2 hours because I have not smelt any of the fresh dough. I looked into the little window and the dough was NOT baked at all, the unit wasn't even hot. It was warm at most.
I don't know if I was supposed to do something else to the unit after I set it to #1 and pressed start or not but I am very disappointed because this unit did not bake at all.

I would look for another brand if you're in the market for a bread machine.
