Great Recordings and Series Buy Them All

I must say I was very suprised with the sound quality of this label CD's. One Fine Day and NOW both from the UK. I purchased one for a spin and I've no purchased the whole series. Great mix of songs and compared to a company like Time Life who charges you a arm and leg for inferior sounding CD's, plus they rip you by having 15 songs per CD where this series will have 25 songs per CD or 50 songs per set (2-CD's). Song selection are a great mix, and they have never sounded better.

This past year I must say the European mastering far exceed American CD when compared. Be it the Elvis, Billie Holiday, Miles and so forth all top notch. For the life of me I cannot understand corporate thinking that all music sounds better when it is pristine clean sounding while robbing it of all it body and warmth, mind you not all CD's but when I hear this series, and any of the 8 classsic albums, or 7 classic albums CD collections that it really hits home how they really given little thought to sound quality.

Do some leg work and hunt down music from these labels, they have never sounded so good on digital and better than my vinyl 1st pressing even or at least as good. Again it not the medium, but those who make the decisions on how they will be put to disc or for that mader downloaded, no amount of bits, SACD, DSD included can fix what's been poorly and altered in many case from the master tape sound.

Thumbs up to this series and these labels.

Great Memories

This is one of a set of super songs evoking great memories from the Golden Age of Rock 'n Roll. 50 tracks of marvelous melodies from our emerging years.
A good bargain that makes you want to 'cruise' around listening and remembering.
I am cutting and pasting this review in all 8 of the series 55 - 62 each is marvelous and each has a little gem that may not have been a top ten hit but fits right in.

The Cruisin' Story = Much Happiness

Its so hard to find a decent collection of classic pop without duplicating songs over and over again. This collection though is amazing!! I love every song! There were even some i'd never heard before. Very high quality and all original recordings by the original artists! I ordered every year in the series and not a single ounce of regret. And you absolutely can not beat the price for the amount of songs you get.

Fabulous Collection, as are all

I've managed to collect seven of the eight volumes, and can't wait to complete the set, hoping that it continues to expand. This is the oldest of the set, which I believe once went only from '56 through '61. No matter, they're ALL great.
Each 2-disc set has a great mix of well-known hits, and some real surprise originals, with a few lesser-known or lesser hits by big names. Also, you get the rare treat of a mixture of Atlantic R&B with early Sun-era Elvis, and Johnny Cash, plus two early Etta James nuggets, and a Ruth Brown tune that is NOT what you may think, despite the title!
Maybe it's because it's the Brits, but they do a great job of mixing early rockabilly with classic R&B, without omitting some pop standards by Dino, Tennessee Ernie, and The Platters. Who knew the original versions of "See You Later Alligator" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On"?? Well, they're here. With 50 songs to choose from, it's an embarrassment of riches.
Get ANY and ALL of these collections; but why not start with this one, the earliest one. You'll be glad you did...

All the songs are great, but I was disappointed they didn't include, "Goodnight Irene" which was a big hit in the 50's.
