This is great parsley!

Parsley is a biennial plant but is often grown as an annual. It thrives in U.S. Department of Agricultural plant hardiness zones 5 through 9. Biennial plants wait until the second year of life to produce flowers and then seeds. Since the leaves aren't as tasty the second year, most people grow the plant as an annual, starting with a new one each season. If you live in an area where the plant will survive the winter, you can let it go to seed the second year, then either collect the seeds or let it self-sow by dropping the seeds into the garden.

People typically grow two types of parsley -- common and Italian. Common parsley has curly leaves and can grow up to 18 inches tall. The Italian variety, also known as flat-leaf parsley, has wide, flat leaves and can grow up to 3 feet tall. Curly parsley is usually a darker green than Italian parsley. The leaves on both types of parsley grow in groups of three on top of longer stalks. If the plant does reach the flowering stage, the flowers it produces are delicate and form in clusters.

You can grow parsley from seed or from a transplanted seedling. The seeds take a long time to germinate, usually between two and three weeks. In some cases, the seeds can take up to six weeks to sprout. If you want to speed up germination, soak the seeds in warm water the night before you plant them. The seeds can tolerate some cold, so direct sow them in the ground three weeks before the last frost in your area.

I've used them to make the same recipes I've always made (we are on a budget and eat a lot of the same homemade meals over and over) and these have made a HUGE difference. I have no words to express my love of Watkins spices. They are top quality, and they make everything taste better. I'm a huge bay leaf fan, and being that my husband is a soup addict, I cook a LOT of soup (often at least twice a week). A good quality bay leaf really and truly does make a difference. While I don't find Watkins expensive, it is obviously a good bit more money than my local grocery's brand spices. I don't care. These are worth every penny and probably a few more.

This smells heavenly if you're a nutmeg person. If you bake, I'm sure this'll be good for you. I put this in my coffee along with some (Watkins) cinnamon and (Watkins) vanilla (can you see a trend?). It tastes amazing and smells just like those pricey coffee drinks you get at the place with the green circular logo.

I have used this for a long time now and my experience with Watkins has only been good. The breads I've baked have had kick because of their ingredients. Well worth the price.

Flavor Name: Saigon CinnamonSize: 1.83 Ounce
I normally use another brand of Saigon cinnamon so imagine my surprise when I spotted this at a local WalMart. My normal testing is to first taste it to determine if it has the characteristic natural sweetness of a true Saigon variety. It does. Second, I rolled a little between my thumb and forefinger to detect any moisture. None. Third, is the whiff test. This is aromatic and passed with flying colors. If I have a single complaint, this one is ground a little too fine for my liking, but that is personal preference and no reflection of product quality.

If you have never tried Saigon cinnamon you are in for a pleasant surprise. First, this is never sold in sticks because of the nature of the bark, which is crumbly when this is harvested. In the past I ground my own sticks of regular cinnamon, but this - in its powdered form - is far more potent than any stick I have ever ground. That disproves the adage that pre-ground spices lose their potency. True, most do, but this stuff does not.

It would have been nice had the jar been darker to protect the contents from premature loss of potency. Store it in a dark place and you will be fine. Also, the holes in the shaker-style top are just the right size for the fine grind. The top is also hinged and seals the contents airtight.

The rule-of-thumb with Saigon cinnamon is to only use 2/3 of what you would use for regular cinnamon. However, I have found that you can get by with half of normal use in most cases. Experiment and let your own taste buds decide. I use this mixed with either honey or unsweetened applesauce as a topping on baked sweet potatoes. It adds a pleasurable flavor that allows me to get by without butter. It is also a pleasure when I add a pinch to coffee grounds before brewing.
