I've installed the Gentex mirrors on other vehicles in the past and they have all worked, and looked good after the installation. Toughest part of the install is always routing the power wires down the A-pillar.

The adapter for VW's was really slick. I did paint it a flat black just so it was undetectable from outside of the vehicle but it literally made for a 5 minute install. Once in place the mirror was extremely solid. Other make adapters have left a small amount of play present but this one has a set screw eliminating that. I also used blue lok-tite to make this a long lasting install.

The mirror really make a difference when overtaken at night. I'll continue to make this one of the first mod's I make to future vehicles.

For this much money, this thing should fit like a glove........well it doesn't. See here for how to modify the install:

but, basically you have to grind down the adapter (installed on 13 JSW), then once you get done with that, you have to tape up the slot on the mirror so it doesn't rattle and vibrate.

The mirror itself looks nice and works as advertised, but the install kit SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

Got this to replace the simple mirror that was stock in my 2012 GTI. Installation was easy thanks to some Youtube videos. It's been stable and works great. Note that the wiring kit that I received was the super-long fused cable. I cut it down and tapped the electricity near the cabin lights in the ceiling.

Despite buying a ton of items off Amazon, I rarely feel the need to post a review – mainly because the reviews in place are accurate and in agreement with each other. Since this mirror seemed to have as many positive reviews as negatives, I decided to give it a go.

Previously I had been using a self-dimming Audi mirror with compass that I had gotten at a scrap yard for $35 in 2005 and transferred it to all my new VW cars. The electronics on it finally bit the dust, so after some research I went with the Gentex Homelink mirror with the VW/Audi adapter.

Other reviews decried the poorly made VW/Audi adapter, so I was hopeful when I saw that this model was coming with the "redesigned" mount. This new one has been painted black and includes two set screws, and I have to admit it fit very snugly on the OEM windshield mount.

Then things went downhill. The installation kit included a jumble of wires with oddly oversized connectors (nearly an inch wide) which made hiding them in the headliner area a challenge. Also frustrating was the ten-pin adapter that plugs into the mirror itself, again quite large. This made passing it through the hole from the overhead lights to the rearview mirror area a finger-scraping, swear inducing waste of time.

Before I even finished the wiring, I decided to see what the mirror looked like in place. I slid it onto the mount adapter and the mirror moved back with at least a half inch of play in both directions. There's another set screw on the mirror itself, so I tightened it down as much as possible, but it didn't do a thing to actually keep the mirror in place.

Figuring I'd done something wrong, I removed the mount adapter from the windshield and slid it into the mirror itself.Read more ›

Installed these on two 2013 GTIs, they work perfect and look great. All GTI should come with these installed, such a small thing. If you install, use the instructions in GTI owners club or vwvortex, much simpler wiring makes it a 15 minute install.
