I purchased this to replace what can be referred to as the worst bread knife in history. This knife is awesome and slices perfectly every time. The handle has excellent contours to fit your hand comfortably and provide superb control. Although, my wife didn't expect it to work so well and during her first use she started with a vigorous sawing motion and sliced her finger slightly. Lesson learned and now she respects and cherishes this knife.

This is my third set of this basic knife. I love the weight and general feel, and yes it doesn't hold an edge like an expensive knife. I slice up an entire pig once a year; I get roughly two big events out of 10 bucks.

I have had these knives for over 1 year now, and have had no quality issues. I usually hand wash them, however they have seen some time in the dishwasher, with no damage done to the knife or handle. Buy a sharpener and always sharpen before you use them, and you will love these. They keep a sharp edge for 2-4 uses, but I still give a quick sharpen before each use.
