My wife hates this case and everybody I met thinks it's ugly. I do not care. It's a functional ugly duckling that is beuatiful for it's own reasons. I watch movies on my phone while eating lunch. Is there a kick stand there? Yep. I drop my phone every now and then, does it absorb the shock? Yep. I take my phone in the bathroom and surf the web while dropping a duce, and if water gets on my phone is there a button cover and screen protector? Yep. Then I a shower afterwards, is there a mesh screen to prevent condensation from killing my phone? Yep. I get bored and hold the phone up by the port coverings. I also hold the phone by the kickstand and swing it around. Does it stay in one piece after 4 months of abuse? Yep. I corner my car at 35 mphs and my phone flies from the cup holder slams against the car door and onto the floor... and my phone is still alive. This case is fantastic.

The case itself, is an excellent product providing great protection. It was a little difficult to open the case, but I called the Ballistic Case Company to learn the trick of opening the case. You have to use a dime coin to put into a slot on the bottom right side of the case and twist to open the case. One minor flaw, is the provided holster. The bottom of the holster has no opening for the earphone jack. The Ballistic Case Company acknowledges the design flaw and says that a re-designed holster is now in production. All you have to do is to call the Ballistic Case Company at 954-832-3502 and tell them you have the defective holster and they will ship you a replacement free of charge. They said to call in mid January. I would highly recommend this case to anyone wanting excellent protection for their new iPhone 5.

I am not one to write product reviews but thought it bennificial to all to share my experience with the Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case. First , I am new to the iPhone user group. I know many people with iPhones and they are in some cases mangled and damaged states. So when I was warned to get a case to protect my iPhone 5, I heeded the warning and quickly perused the offerings on Amazon. Being I used Amazon should go without saying that I want bang for my buck. I want an affordable product and a quality product. With the Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case I got both...and here are three reasons why.

Number one the Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case looks good...it exudes guy!

Number two the clasp/clip on the back is excellent. It has a kind of shepherds hook on the end of it that really works. Sometimes to a point of working so well I have trouble un clipping it. But that surely beats coming uncliped a loosing the phone.

Number three, I recently was driving in my Ford F-250 on a Saturday morning to help my son renovate his lawn. While driving down the road at 50 mph, windows down, son and dog in truck and iPhone 5 in Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case on dase board I made a right turn......and watched the iphone 5 and Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case slide effortlessly across the dashboard from right to left and out the partially opened window. Oh that sinking feeling as i caught a brief glimps of the now liberated iPhone as it crashed and slid across the asphalt. I quickly pulled to the side of the road and retrieved the Ballistic HC0956-M005 Hard Case and the iPhone it protected. A few minor scraches on the exterior of the case. iPhone protected 100%.
So if you care to test this case beyond the 5 foot drop at 50 mph on ashalt it will pass. Beyond that...nothing is totally idiot proof.

One Year Update:
This case is the best cell cover that I have owned. That's going back 6 phones and 3 touch screen smart phones.
Except for replacing the scratched clear screen cover with a Zagg at six months, everything has held up.
Family got 5 iPhones a year ago, everyone picked their own cover. A couple covers have already been replaced and the others look ratty.
A quick wipe with a damp cloth and this Ballistic looks new.

Pros:
The multiple layer idea definitely covers more ground, versus changing cases for city/country or work/play.
A very solid case that gives me confidence that my hand held supercomputer will last for the duration of the 2 year contract.
All of the buttons and ports covered by combined layers 1 and 2 to prevent contamination.
The rubber 4th layer slips on and off easily as needed. (I will probably never use the final, belt clip case 5th layer.)

All the buttons work easily enough as compared the other covered button cases that I have used.
Neat folding kickstand looks cool on the conference table.
Still looks new after month and a couple unintended ground excursions.

Cons:
The phone will not stay in the case without layer 3, the front bezel and clear screen cover, snapped in place.
This is not clear from the "5 layer protection" promotional tactic, but only matters if you had hoped to be able to reconfigure the case that way.
Don't see this has been mentioned in other reviews. Perhaps it was only me.Read more ›
