Style Name: Pipe Wrap Insulation Verified Purchase
This is probably a decent insulating wrap for pipes -- certainly less messy and safer than fiberglass wrap. However, the amazon listing (at the time of this review) indicates that this insulation is 3/8" thick. This is stated clearly in two places on the listing. However it is actually only 1/11" thick, which is less than one-quarter of the thickness advertised. In the case of insulation, where thickness is the crucial factor, this is a big deal. The result is that I have had to use about four times as much of this wrap as I expected to use in covering a few feet of hot water pipe. This makes it much more expensive than you would expect if it was actually 3/8" thick as advertised. I hope amazon will correct the listing so that others are not deceived as I was.

UPDATE (September 25, 2012): I notified the seller of this item about the error in the listing described above. They said they would fix the error. But, in addition to raising the price, they "fixed" the error with an even worse error. Instead of claiming that the insulation is 3/8" thick, they now claim that it is 1.11" thick. This is even further off than it was before. The actual thickness is 1/11" (which is .091"), not 1.11".

UPDATE (November 14, 2012): Today I see that the listing has been changed again, back to the incorrect indication that this insulation is 3/8" thick. As stated in the first installment of this review, that is false. The insulation is 1/11" thick as I have stated all along. As of today you can see the correct dimensions by zooming in on the picture of the packaging. The dimensions shown on the packaging are correct. The dimensions shown on the listing and description are not.

Style Name: Socket and Outlet Sealers
These actually work. I admit that I had my doubts at first, but then I verified the results with the Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector. Outlets that were at least 2-3 degrees lower in temperature prior to install were actually warmer than the wall after install. Pretty amazing. Package comes with mostly double round socket and a few square. Our house has all square, so we cut the round to fit the square plate and they work very well. We used the light switch cut outs for cable coax outlets which made a huge difference. The pictures are relative to current wall temperature right next to the socket.

Style Name: Socket and Outlet Sealers
When I first found out about this product I was a little incredulous - how much cold air could possibly leak in through electrical sockets? Before buying them I tested several of my sockets for drafts. (I just unscrewed the socket cover and held my hand up to it to feel for a draft. Another technique is to hold a lit candle in front of the uncovered socket to see if the draft is strong enough to put out the flame.) Lo and behold, the sockets on the outer walls of the house DID let in a noticeable amount of air. It wasn't just a colder ambient temperature - I could actually feel a soft air flow coming in through the socket. I also tried this with the light switches; for some reason, they didn't feel as drafty as the electrical sockets. Since this product is pretty inexpensive, I decided it was worth a try.

I had more than enough insulators to cover all of the wall sockets and light switches on the outer walls of my house. The insulators were easy to install and fit most of the sockets well. After installing the sealers, the plastic covers were still flush with the wall. On one or two of the sockets, they were about a quarter of an inch short on the top and bottom. After installing the insulators I re-tested for coldness, with and without the plastic covers. Even when the insulators were slightly short, they did an excellent job of keeping the ambient temperature in front of the socket consistent with the temperature in the middle of the room.

Now... I'm not expecting these insulators alone to make a reduction in my energy bill. If they do, I'll update this review. However, I did feel a noticeable improvement in the room temperature when sitting on the couch against the wall. This is what I wanted the most from this product, so I am happy with the purchase. I would buy these again.

Style Name: Attic Stairway Cover Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I was able to assemble the cover and install it over the stairs in about 5 minutes flat. It's inexpensive, easy to assemble, and effective in eliminating the draft I was dealing with in the hallway. I expect the energy savings to quickly pay for this cover since it's already getting cold here in the coastal region of South Carolina.

The only caveat to using this cover is that if you are in and out of the attic frequently, I'm not certain it would hold up very well for very long. The insulation material is exposed on the inside of the tent and it's rather flimsy and needs to be carefully adjusted over the stairs to ensure a tight fit. Constantly removing and refitting the cover will probably wear it out quickly. I only go into my attic six times a year, so I expect this to last a long time.

Please look at the photo I uploaded here to see the view of the cover from under the stairs.

Style Name: Water Heater Insulation Blanket Verified Purchase
Careful: Actual product length is much smaller than 75 inches!

My AO Smith water heater is 20" in diameter, which make it 63" in circumference, and this insulation barely makes it around the heater, with maybe an inch or two to spare. I doubt it would fit any water heater greater than 20" in diameter, so measure before ordering.

The insulation did install pretty easily, and I have a "short" water heater, so the top to bottom coverage was not an issue.
If you have a regular "tall" heater the 48" height may not be sufficient to provide adequate coverage.

The provided foil tape worked well, but there isn't very much of it, so I would recommend picking up an extra roll of foil tape, you're probably going to need it. I did.

Once installed it's very neat, and no itchy fiberglass, but please measure your water heater carefully before ordering, and assume the actual product length is 65 inches, not 75 inches!
