My dog would literally inhale his food. It would take hime less than 20-30 seconds to get through a whole bowl.... but not anymore. This bowl slowed him down considerably. The first time I sat it down for him he sniffed it, tried to dive in but couldn't. Then he walked around it in circles with a puzzled look on his face and then figured out his days of inhaling food were over. I can't speak to the "non-skid" part bc my dog has never been one to push his bowls around but I tested it out by pushing it along the counter-top and it seemed to work well.

I only gave it 4 stars due to the fact that the wrong color bowl showed up. Could have just been a packaging error but I'm not too picky anyway. Excellent product.

UPDATE 11/11: He's learned how to eat faster out of the bowl again but it's still nowhere near how fast it was before. Overall, still a good choice to slow down your dogs eating habits.

Certainly slows the dog down when eating, but the bowl gets pushed all over the room! it certainly isn't non-skid. the dog picks the bowl up in his mouth because he is so frustrated he has to eat slowly, lol.

This does not slow the dogs down to a crawl, but adds some time. I am a host for Dog Vacay, and feeding multiple dogs has a lot to do with timing. I use these to slow down the fast eaters marginally, so the slower eaters don't feel threatended by others walking around and watching them eat.
My own huge dogs do well eating their 1 1/2 cup serving of dry food from these. One is smart enough to pick it up and roll the pieces to one end or another, but it still takes him a while. In my experience, these can still slide around a bit, but are deep enough to keep dogs busy just the same.
Adding 60-120 seconds to a fast dog's eating time can also help dogs who eat so fast they puke afterwards. (as can small servings given more often or breaking a meal into 2 parts).
I keep the dogs pretty spread out. Some in different rooms, or facing different ways. If you have an ultra-fast eater who is not overweight, and a very slow eater who gives over the food, separating may be best - but a smear of peanut butter under the food in the very middle of the bowl would also slow the fast dog down even more.

My puppy Waldo scarfs down his food then likes to eat it back up... *sigh... Kids. We have one of these for our mastiff so we thought we'd try it out on the puppy. He's had it for about a month and he hasn't thrown up or reguritated his food since! Although, I will say that he's mastered this bowl and is eating just as fast as he was before. Maybe the throwing up was a puppy thing but he still eats a lot slower than if we put it in a regular bowl so we just keep feeding him in it!

Plus, our small schnauzer mutt thinks it's a play toy and likes to trot around the house with it after Waldo is done eating. Double win haha!

Seems to work exactly as promised - slows the dogs down on their food substantially without frustrating them. A little light, and scoots around the room more than I'd like - but that's very minor.

it's a great bowl for slowing down the eating of a dog who would inhale her food. However it is totally NOT non-skid. My dog chases her bowl around the kitchen as she eats

I hate these. I purchased the medium. Then large. Then jumbo for my corgie/terrier mix. She is by no means a German Shepard who you'd think needs the "jumbo" and I understand the slow food concept to help overweight dogs eat slower so they don't eat so much but she can't even get her (totally not jumbo) snout in the spaces to get the food. These bowls are just weirdly and poorly made. Mine sits in the cabinet and hasn't been used.

This bowl is a good concept, but if you have a puppy who has a large snout (Bull Terrier, for example), you may want to consider another type of slow feeder. Our puppy became very frustrated because he could not get into the compartments and learned to flip bowl over, thereby defeating the purpose. And the plastic feet became an easy target for chewing once the bowl was upside down.
