I just want to say that Calico Critters go beyond any age limit. I took my 9 year old granddaughter to a store and let her pick what she wanted for her birthday within a certain price range. She first picked some other things but when she saw this the deciding was over. She has the cottage, nursery school, and carrying case and quite a few Critters and accessories. But I was surprised and pleased she still wanted them. She recently commented she'd like more pieces. She never had a dollhouse, but she loves these.
This house has much more room for pieces and to actually move things and Critters around than the cottage. It also can be connected to the cottage to make a mansion. And the lights are a nice touch. All the Critters she has have held up well, so I don't hesitate to spend a bit more on them.
So for anyone reading reviews and see that there are many commenters purchasing for toddlers, don't be put off buying this for an older child. Honestly, I think most of the Critters toys are too tiny for toddlers. But that's JMO.

I just saw this toy from another retailer and it costs 50% off what is listed here. This is not a hard-to-find item so I am surprised why the price is so high. Good item, my daughter loves this playset and it encourages imaginative play. The critters are cute and this set is truly a good starter kit because it includes 2 rabbits as well as numerous furniture pieces (not sure if the other cheaper townhouse has furniture).

We love this house!!!! My four year old plays with it and so does her one year old brother. We keep the tiny things put away for now.... I added the wallpaper using spray adhesive and the pages from the calico critters website. I actually used their paper as a template and cut scrapbook paper that we liked better. It turned out so cute! I do agree that the batteries for the lights crash quickly!

Super cute and well-made. My only concern is that many of the pieces are SO TINY. Included in the set is a 1/2"-tall blender...comprised of three pieces! The three year old I bought it for can manipulate the little pieces, however, and she loves the whole set. In addition, this is a gift a kid can grow into, as there are many additional dolls, pieces of furniture, and household items you can add.

Great play house set for our 3 year old. She plays with it almost everyday. The design and details makes up for the price of the set. I think this will most likely be passed down to her children one day. FYI...the small pieces like the food, dishes, etc are not safe for a 3 year old. We put those aside and will be brought out when she's older.

This is a great set. The house comes with lots of little furniture and even some animal people. Oh and there are actual working lights in the home. My daughter loves how she can do so much with this home. It is expensive but def. worth the price for the size and all that you get.

Our daughter loves it. Good thing is you can buy and add more stuff to this item. Only complain is... Why you include two figures only (a mom and daughter)? Where is the dad :)? We got the rabbit family to go with this and our 3 year old when she had them all together thought the guy had two wives. Crazy! We had to put the mom away.

My 3 year old cannot get enough of this townhome! My toddler is not huge on independent plan, but now she goes in her room by herself while i'm making dinner or caring for my infant and she is totally entertained for as long as I'll leave her in there to play. Worth every penny!
