I was looking for a high-performance game/work keyboard. First thoughts on this are that it is beautiful. I like the keys too. I love the idea of the touch-screen interface and softly-backlit-keys. But my love for this keyboard stops on the surface. If you have proper ergonomics, you can't really see most of the special graphical keys because the screen part is too "deep" below the surface of the key. The "synapse" screen is also not responsive enough for gaming and not tactile enough to use for business. As a mouse trackpad, it actually functions quite well. And then there are the keys themselves. Razer has a reputation for high-performance keyboards with top quality responsiveness. These keys are anything but. For some reason, they chose to go with chicklet keys and a membrane board instead of the high-quality mechanical switches that all their other top keyboards go with. The keys are stiff and require much more force to depress than they should. While typing this review alone, I've already had to fix a lot more typos than I should have. And it's due to the stiffness and required pressure of the keys....nothing else. This keyboard is going back into the box until Razer releases a version 2. No software update is going to fix these problems.

First let me say this keyboard has A LOT of potential, if it worked like it should. Its beautiful and types great, so long as it is working. I am an avid hardware enthusiast, so please understand that what im about to say comes from a lot of experience and knowledge.
My computer runs Win 7, a i7-920 cpu, Evga SLI le Mobo, 580 gtx in SlI, 6 gigs dominator ram, and a corsair 1000 watt + power supply all water cooled. I am a geek! This is my thing so please dont think i just plugged this in and decided it did not work. I spent a lot of time trying to get this to work as it is supposed to.

The people earlier having problems with certain usb ports is no joke. In fact my computer will not even post with this thing plugged into certain ports. I have never ever had this problem from a USB device. I get post code 50 on my mobo ( a usb initialization error) In fact sometimes i have to plug in my Logitech g15 just to start the darn thing. Then plug this in after windows starts!! I am seriously thinking about returning this product and just keeping the G15.

The apps are very buggy as well. So far Battlefield 3 has no working app, which razer claimed would be out last month! Every time i try to use the gmail app, facebook, twitter or youtube, i spend a minute or two closing all the error boxes that are generated by synapse 2.0. Gaming mode crashes, the touch pad crashes, really at this point its only fun to look at. Razer has no user forums, which is crazy this day and age. It is the best place for others to correspond and help each other out for things like this, but alas that does not exist. Razer does make good products, I own the nostromo and mamba 2012 and those are great devices, but this keyboard is giving me a belly full of regret so far.

I'll try to keep my review short since I'd just be repeating what most 1-3 star reviews have complained about.

Issues I have been having.
Touch Screen goes black and stays black.
Switchblade Keys goes black and stays black.
Sometimes the Switchblade key is white with an XML error spanning across the keys.
When Synapse changes profiles, keyboard because unresponsive for a short while, and then repeats the last key pressed until another key is pressed.
Dust somehow finds it's between the switchblade button and the screen behind the button. Unable to clean since Razer clearly states that the keys are not removable.

After Installing Synapse software to get this keyboard functional, it messed up my mouse, the wireless Naga ultimate.
My mouse now freezes whenever Synapse chooses to check for an update and Synapse seems to like to check for updates during a gaming session.

I am very disappointed with Razer. I've purchased this keyboard last year around October and a it still has major issues today. This keyboard is great to use when I code apps or use Photoshop, but it clearly is not a good gaming keyboard, atleast for me.

I have lost so much confidence in razer that I had to swapped out my deathstalker Ultimate keyboard back to my old trusty Logitech g15 keyboard. I rolled back my Naga wireless mouse back to the pre synapse drivers and now it wrks perfectly again.

I've also decided to buy a Logitech g13 gamers keyboard for gaming since my new Razer is not up to the task for gaming. I've also decided not to upgrade my Razer Barracuda headphones to another Razer headphone, and opted for a Logitech solution.

If I could return the keyboard for a full refund, I would.

I really wanted to like this keyboard. The issues of no support in most games, the lack of any real tech support and the on again off again operation of the LCD screen weighted it too heavily in the negative column. Everything other reviewers are saying is true. This keyboard is not worth the money and needs some more maturation. It is pretty tho.
