Product Description

A mid-weight flight nylon with water resistance and scads of versatility, the MA-1 Navy fighter pilot jacket was the first military flight jacket to cross over into civilian fashion. Our nylon flight jacket includes knit cuffs, a knit collar and waistband, as well as a strong front zipper with storm flap for warmth. There are multiple snap-closure pockets as well as the utility/pencil pocket with the Remove Before Flight keychain. Our MA-1 jackets are reversible to bright orange, making them ideal for rescue missions and other times when visibility is imperative. This current version has been kept as close as possible to the classic specifications (dating back to the early 1950's) and also received several revisions during the 1960's. Alpha Industries was founded on the belief that the U.S. armed forces deserved protective clothing that was of superior quality and delivered outstanding defense against extreme climate conditions. From our start in October 1959, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) awarded Alpha contracts to produce jackets for American service members, including iconic styles such as the N-3B parka and the MA-1 flight jacket. Alpha grew rapidly during the 1960s, as the Vietnam War led to a substantial increase in DOD production contracts. Lessons learned from intense battlefield experience also led to new technological advances in fabric and the manufacturing process. Alpha soon began producing infantry jackets, including the iconic M-65 Field Coat made legendary during the Vietnam War. Today, Alpha Industries is known around the world for its high-quality, military-inspired outerwear. We continue to produce the classic military silhouettes that are core to our heritage, as well as modern innovations in style and function. Bomber jacket

I liked the jacket however the picture is misleading, it appears to be a very light weight jacket when it's actually too warm & heavy to be worn on warmer days. 50-70 deg. days.
The jacket I wanted was to be like the one I had worn in the air-force. It was light weight, more like a shell... I returned it.

Flight Jacket

I have been wearing these jackets for a long time. They are by far my favorites. I keep one in the closet and one in the truck; a summer model and a winter model. To explain the fit, these jackets have always run small in the shoulders so buy one size up if you like it a little snug or two sizes up if you like it loose. I like it loose, plus I have put on a few pounds since my Corps days and it is slimming for a "muscular" guy like me (:

I have pretty broad shoulders and find it hard to size jackets ...

Ordered a size up as some reviewers said the jacket ran a little tight in the shoulders. I have pretty broad shoulders and find it hard to size jackets correctly, since they are either tight in the shoulders and fit well across the waist or fit well in the shoulders and are sloppy big in the waist. I think sizing up was the right call since the jacket fits well and isn't too baggy in the stomach area. It's a warm coat and definitely will be nice for colder weather. Overall, happy with the purchase.

High quality product, and it shows!

Jacket is superb quality. Heavier material and feel than the Rothco. This product will allow for a hoodie or lined flannel underneath. I recently also purchased the Rothco. That is a tighter fit, lighter material. This coat does not appear shiny, like a satin coat or some of the off brand flight coat. The blood chit on the inside is very cool, and a lot of people ask about it.

I also own a rothco ma-1 in a size small(fits more like a medium ) so I got this Ai ma-1 in a small but it actually fits like a small ( I got lucky and I like the fit) but I don't recommend sizing down if you are regularly a medium. Also amazing quality. Way better than my rothco in everything from construction to fabrics

Love this jacket! Took advise of other reviews and bought one size up from usual and it fits perfect. It is a little puffy as others have described, but no more so than expected of a medium weight jacket. Very lightweight and warm for it's weight. Read other reviews, they helped make up my mind. If you're on the fence, get it, you will not be disappointed.
