My puppy Vi (an energetic Vizsla) is getting bigger, so I wanted to get her next collar engraved. I really wanted something that I was sure would be securely attached, and I eventually settled on this product.

The information in the product description was pretty clear except for one thing: What is the number of characters limit for the engraving? I looked all over, and could not find it described. I sent a message to the seller, and they got back to me very quickly. They said that "The maximum characters is about 20 for the top and bottom lines and 22 for the middle lines. We can do upper and lower case, but suggest doing all upper case since it makes the tag much easier to read."

I was kind of disappointed because I wanted to put my e-mail address on the collar. And my address was just a little too long. But, that is hardly their fault.

My other concern about this product was putting the rivets on properly. I had a nylon collar, and it was a pain cutting the hole and putting the rivets thru. I suspect that this would have been easier if I had the proper tools: I used a box cutter to make two tiny holes. I was able to bend the rivet flanges without any trouble.

I was worried that the rivets might irritate my dog's neck, but I was able to place the tag at a place on the adjustable nylon collar such that there was another layer of collar between the rivet flanges and my dog's neck. I think it would work well with a leather collar too, but I would not recommend this attachment if you need to install this on a nylon collar and you did not have the buffering layer.

Vi has been running around playing with other dogs, going thru bushes/brambles, and the tag has stayed on just fine.

I love this tag! It fits perfectly on my dog's harness and the metal rivets keep it secure so I don't worry about it ever falling off. I love that it doesn't make any noise.

I followed the tip of another reviewer here and used a hot nail to burn holes into the nylon strap of the harness instead of trying to cut holes into it. I held the nail in a pair of pliers and heated it in the flame of a candle. It took some patience - about 10 minutes of trial and error.

I got mine with 4 lines. The top line was all capital letters for my dog's name. The longest line I had was 23 characters (one was a period for an email address).

The other tip I have is that I sewed a canvas backing material over the rivets so they won't poke into my dog. If you are putting it on a collar that has overlapping layers, then I'd put it into the outer layer. I just didn't have enough room on the harness strap to do that.

I'm quite satisfied with this purchase, and in fact just ordered another on to put on the other harness!

The engraved stainless steel pet ID tag itself was fine. The rivets they sent with the tag were not impressive. The rivets were one piece that split on the backside to secure the tag. The last brand I bought sent several two piece rivets (for multiple uses on other collars).

I purchased this in brass. I DID like this very much, looked very nice, and I like the rivet concept for attachment.

HOWEVER, it is now illegible after 2 months due to normal wear. Very few of the words and numbers can be read. If my dog were found, a person would not be able to read the contact information. Brass is softer than steel, so perhaps the stainless steel version would last longer. But, I would at least not recommend getting the brass version since after a couple of months it may be rendered useless.

UPDATE: Upon the Seller reading my review, they immediately sent me a replacement due to lifetime guarantee. (Thank you.) I give them credit for that and added a star.

Tag looks great. I like that there are finish options for the tag. Installation instructions are great. The included rivets make the tag look cheap. I would recommend buying some rivets with caps if you want this tag. Picture shows rivets after install.

This is exactly what I was looking for. We used our own 1/8" stainless rivets to put it on a 5/8 inch nylon collar. We put a hole in the collar first with a heated nail. We put the rivet in backwards so that the smooth side is on the inside of the collar, then used a ball peen (rounded) hammer to round out the rivet sticking out on the outside of the collar. Nice stainless with deep engraving.

I bought this since my dog keeps losing his tags. it was a ittle smaller then I thought it would be but its still a good size. easy to attach( I heated a nail to melt the holes for the rivets through my dogs nylon collar) shipped fast! good deal for 12 bucks!

My 2 large dogs are like Houdini with getting their tags off. These weren't as easy to "install" as I had hoped, but with minimal damage to my cutting board and some effort, the ID tag is now a part of each dogs collar. I ended up using a crafting razor to make small slits in the collar to create the holes for the rivets, a pair of needle nose pliers to pry/bend the rivets on the back side and then a hammer to bang them flat (all on a wooden cutting board). It was a bit of work, but provided they don't figure out how to get the collars off, my dogs will have all the pertinent info with them always.
