There's a very important piece of information missing from the printed instructions (applicable only for left hinged door lock sets). The door lock comes set for right hinged doors even though you bought a left hinged door set. What the instructions do not tell you is that on the outside hinge (the one with the keypad on it) there is a plastic circular piece on the shaft. You have to slide the plastic piece off of the shaft and then locate the pin underneath. Move the pin up (counter clockwise) looking at the shaft. Slide the plastic piece back over the shaft and then follow the included instructions. The door lock will not work on a left hinged door if you do not move the pin 90 degrees upward to the 3 o'clock position.

Other than that it looks great and works great....now.

I got this to keep the kids out of a particular room in our house where we keep delicate items, and where we want to be able to go without having to mess with keys. It was easy to install, taking the place of a regular door knob. No complaints whatsoever. It's not as secure as a deadbolt, but for me that's not a concern.

Besides a primary passcode, you can set a secondary passcode if you want, and either code will unlock it. If you want to use a secondary code, here's a suggestion: don't ever forget it! The device requires you to enter the current secondary code in order to change the secondary code. (You can change the primary code without having to know the current primary code.) Of course, changing the codes is done on the unlocked side of the door. On that side, there's just the handle, which always unlocks so you can pass through.

Works fine now and I would give it 5 stars based on its features and ease of use. I'll update this review after I know more about the battery life.

However, the install process was not as easy as it should have been. I think on a new door or at least a newer door, the install could be very good. That's because everything was built to pretty tight tolerances and would probably only fit well inside a new (or perfectly cut) door. My install took several days because the main part of the lock doesn't fit inside the circular cutout on the door very well. This caused the lock to bind and not open properly. For a while I thought the lock was broken, but further tinkering revealed that my door is just old. The tongue doesn't sit where it used to sit when doors are new. The square rod doesn't align well and causes binding inside the mechanism. After taking a wood file to my door to enlarge the circular cutout, everything was able to fit better inside. Now it works great, but phew! It took a while. This lock could have been designed for an easier install if they made the main body (the circular portion that goes inside the door's cutout) slightly smaller.

If you buy this lock, install it very carefully if you have an old door. Pay attention to how everything fits and rotates before putting in the last bolt.

We have a special needs child so we have to lock closets, dangerous items, and the like. We have bought several different electronic locks and this is the best we have found. The lock works consistently well. The big handle makes it easy to open when you are carrying a bunch of things.

One small problem. The cover for the key cylinder (the key is a backup in case you forget the combination) is held in place by a small magnet. The magnet isn't strong enough so it falls out all the time so we just leave it off.

This is a great product for the price. The instructions were sketchy, but you can figure it out. Very solid design with nice backlit numbers. Unlike other digital locks I've bought, with this one, you have to enter your code then push either the "*" or "#" key. The handle on the entry side moves, and is disengaged from the lockset until the code is entered, then when moved, it opens the door. There is no way to unlock this set all the time. It is always locked, even if you use the manual key. The key has a magnet on it that is used to remove the small metal circle plate hiding the key hole. You insert the key and turn it to engage the handle to open the door.

The lock itself looked fine, but when I opened up the package a whole bunch of little tiny brass lock tumblers came piling out onto the floor. There is no way I can put this lock back together. And the instructions are next to useless. It's going back to Amazon.

I would give it 5 stars but the first 2 items that I got were not working at all. It turns out the third one was in a similar situation but I realized that the battery plug, if not put in the correct way even once, pushes the pins back and causes a loose connection. I ended up pushing it back and adding a small amount of solder, it worked like a charm. I use this every day in my office and I never have to bring a key. Highly recommend it!
