I would of thought that i'd be the last person to buy an otterbox case for such a large phone. Ive always been the "style" kind of guy so for all my previous phones, id get a super slim cover. Those are great looking but dont offer drop protection. only scratch protection. When looking for a case for my beloved note 2 that i paid full retail price on, i wanted something more than just scratch protection. There are PLENTY of unique flip cases out there and i really wanted to buy one of them to add some style, and some protection. But knowing the fact that my phone would most likely break from a drop just wasn't reassuring to me. So i turned to Otterbox, the most well known brand when it comes to serious protection. I wear pretty slim jeans (the skinniest a man can go without feeling uncomfortable/skin tight). So i knew an otterbox defender wouldnt fit and im not much of a holster fan. Hoping that this case would fit my pockets, i decided to dish out some cash and buy it.

Pros:
-IT FITS IN MY POCKET!!!!!
-It actually feels great to hold onto and gives my phone a rugged appearance
-Unlike the Defender, the Commuter is made of an inside rubber and outer plastic shell. this is great for all the people who want to slide their phones in and out of their pocket with ease.
-There are flaps that cover the 3.5mm headphone jack and the charging port so no dust can get inside.
-There is a nice even lip so that if the phone dropped face down, the screen would not make contact with the floor.
-UNLIKE the Defender case, there are no problems pressing the volume buttons! (i was really scared that the buttons would feel mushy because many people with the Defender series were complaning of that issue.Read more ›

Five weeks ago I bought this case for my Note 2 from Amazon after I had had my phone for a month with a slim notebook type cover (which offered NO Protection, but which slipped easily into my pocket).

I bought the case because of my previous, very positive experience I had had with OtterBox cases for my previous cell phones.

The reason that I did not get an OtterBox case to start with was because I was concerned that with the OtterBox case I might not be able to slip the phone/case into and out of my pockets easily. However, much to my surprise I found that I could very easily slip the phone (with OtterbBox commuter case) into and out of my man's shirt pocket with ease and that it did not "stick" to the shirt material going into and out of my pockets. Also, it did NOT just "fall out" when I would lean over at my job. My previous OtterBox cases were more along the "Defender" line and had very "sticky" outer rubber material which made it very difficult to get the phone into and out of any pocket no mater what size the pocket. The outer cover of the Commuter Case is a harder plastic and has good ribbing on it to enable it to be held without slipping out of the hand.
I have now had 4 episodes (in 4 weeks of owning the OtterBox case) where my phone fell out of my hand, got knocked off of a table or "thrown" across the room (by my 5 year old grandson) and the phone has received absolutely no marks or malfunctions.
The craftsmansip and "fit" of this phone case is excellent. I was concerned that the opening for the S-Pen (stylus) might make it too difficult to get the pen into and out of its slot, but this has not been the case with this case. I am a fingernail biter and it is sometimes difficult to grasp things like the stylus head and pull them free of their docking.Read more ›

well...for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (huge device and LOVE it)..got at first the Otterbox Defender case and had TOTAL protection but...BUT...now the device was literally twice as thick and the rubber outside layer made it hard to go into and out of my pocket. The Commuter Series case has the rubber inside layer and hard plastic outside and not as fat so got that one here...ONLY complaint is that the surface on the back of the plastic is WAYYYYY TOOO SMOOTH and slippery!! You would think this company (Otterbox) would have tested it and made some sort of "abrasions", so to speak...on the back to decrease the chance of it slipping right out of your hand!! I have found other plastic protective cases that were way better for this problem but they don't have the inner rubber layer and/or the "LIP" surrounding the glass face to keep the glass screen from touching the ground if / when dropped.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and was really nervous about walking around with such an expensive phone and no protection. The first case I bought was a Mercury Slim Fit Flexible TPU Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Light Blue) (I got the red one). This is a decent, attractive case, but offers little in the way of drop protection. I also bought a MobC Galaxy Note 2 / N7100 Screen Protector HD Film - 99.9% Clarity Japanese Film - Retail Packaging - Fine Crystal [2-Pack].

I looked at more substantial cases and finally settled on the OtterBox Commuter. I already had a good screen protector, didn't want to wear the phone on my belt and thought that the OtterBox Defender might be overkill for me. So far, I'm liking the Commuter. You should know that the photo Amazon uses is misleading. Only the inner, rubbery part of the case is Glacier (gray). The harder plastic part of the case is white. I don't know how dirty this is going to get or how easy it will be to clean.

Pro: Good drop protection; good screen protection (by this I mean the raised lip around the edge of the screen is substantial - about 1/8"); plenty of room for my MobC screen protector; generous cut out for the stylus; on/off and volume buttons work easily; not too bulky (fits in my iOttie One-Touch windshield and dashboard car mount for Galaxy Note 2).

Con: A little too rubbery to slide in and out of the pocket easily; not very attractive.

Overall I'm happy so far. I'll update after I've had it for a while.
