Ordered this product to use as a connection to my computer for a Midi device that is older than most out there today. I was hesitant at first because I hate sending items that I purchased back to the manufacture. HOWEVER, this product fit like charm with regards to both connections, and even though I did not have to contact the company, they were concerned about my satisfaction with the product and if it worked as described. I previously wrote a bad review because the cable I got didn't work with my guitar-to-MIDI converter. Vic Tsing saw the review and offered to send me a free replacement. The replacement worked just fine, so I'm changing my review. Now that I have a working one, it's a perfectly adequate adapter, at least for home use (I don't know how it ranks against fancy studio gear, but I don't particularly care either).

Points for being a good product, and bonus points to Vic Tsing for outstanding customer service!

Great for the price. Like others have said, you will probably need to SWITCH the MIDI (IN) and MIDI (OUT) from what they say on your device. I have a Yamaha P80 piano and had to switch the interfaces from what one would think. Once I did that, it connected immediately and works great!

I am an audio engineer, my friend brought his electronic drum kit over, its an old kit that has that dual midi cable input and output. I did not have the proper cables for it since midi has now been replaced by usb. This product provided me with a very easy solution, and it works exactly as it should. And now my friend can play his drum and it directly converts to midi and my computer plays it in real-time (no delay whatsoever) with the drumkit plug in. No problems at all!

Yes... it works with Windows 8.1 I didn't know you have to hook up the Midi Out cable to the Midi In on the device. And the Midi In cable to the Midi Out on the device. Then it works OK. The lights on it are a little flaky. Red is power. My yellow "in" light is just flickering away. No green "out" light. Regardless of keys pressed. Other than than... who cares about the lights... it works to my Windows 8.1 into FL Studio 11.

I bought this for use with Rock Band 3 uses an Alesis DM8 Pro electronic drum kit. It works perfectly! You do have to get creative with the DM8 though. The MIDI out mappings are different than the ION Rocker drum kit and the DM6; those two are perfectly configured right out of the box and work without any fuss. But the DM8, DM7x, DM10, and other Roland and Yamaha kits do not use the same MIDI mappings so you do have to configure it. Here's how it's done:

1) Make sure your computer is connected to the internet so it downloads the drivers automatically (plug-and-play requires internet connection).

2) Connect your DM8 Pro's MIDI USB out to the computer.

3) Connect the VicSing MIDI adapter's "Out" port to your Rock Band 3 MIDI Pro Adapter. Plug in the USB of the VicSing into your computer. If you change ports on your computer, it'll reinstall the driver each time you plug it into a different port, FYI. Plug the RB3 MIDI Pro adapter into your Xbox 360 and turn that on as well.

4) Your computer should have recognized and installed the driver for both the DM8 Pro and the VicSing. Go and download the free MIDI-OX software. Install it for personal use so you don't need a serial/key. Open it.

5) Go into the Devices menu for VicSing. For input, choose the DM8. For output, choose the USB 2.0 Output - that's the output port on your VicSing.

6) Go to your DM8 Pro drum kit. Hit the button to edit whatever drumset you're using now. Select the MIDI option (F2). Now you can scroll between each pad on your kit and edit the MIDI mappings. Look in the user guide for the Rock Band 3 MIDI Prod Adapter instruction booklet.Read more ›
