If you have Guppies (let's say) and have been going along thinking that your Guppies typically have eight or ten fry - you are going to be pretty surprised the first time you put a preggers Guppie in one of these. First time I did it we got 57 fry. I'd been thinking that my Guppies didn't eat their young or that I just had high IQ fry - guess again. What you've been looking at are the survivors. Of course this means giving them away on Craigslist every few weeks unless you have a tank big enough for Paul Ehrlich, but these certainly work to give you the entire litter.

I've purchased a number of nursery boxes over the years and I absolutely like this one so much I bought 5 more. It does pretty much what all the other boxes do, but this one has a detachable bottom (the part where the fry fall into). This allows me to line the boxes up along the back wall of my "fry" aquarium allowing the babies to drop directly into the tank. You can also leave the bottom on and use it in a tank with adult fish. Overall, its the most versatile breeder box available.

This is great for separating fish fry, even in a small aquarium, but you will want to secure it somehow, such as with wire bent into hooks, because the suction cups don't hold very well. I secured it with wire and it worked perfectly.

From the description one is lead to believe 2 pregnant fish could be in this container, it looks like there would be a diagonal divider in the upper compartment..............there is not. Not sure how they figured 2 fish could be in there, no way I can see to put a divider in there either. Other than that it appears to be fine, we'll see how it works. I put rocks in the bottom of it so the fry will not fall right out into the tank. I also assumed there would be something removable to keep the fry from getting out right away, there is not. a deceptive ad in my opinion, but for what it is should be o.k for one fish/ or crayfish.

Middle piece floats up. First round of babies got stuck in the slits and were dead by morning. Second set we placed a spacer so they would drop through, but figuring out what to use that would also weigh it down was not worth it. Good if your trying to catch the babies and see how many were birthed but don't care if they live. 😧

It works! But the weirdest thing is if I keep on the cover and put it underwater, full grown platies find their way inside the top chamber! How do they fit in those two tiny holes on the top? Great for letting the female platy give birth and, later, serve as a nursery for the fry

One of the suction cups stopped keeping suction but it did it's job and I was able to capture about 20 fry. It's smaller than I was thinking but I guess it's big enough b/c adult guppy was ok in it for a couple of days and the tiny fry lived in it for two weeks.

If you have a small tank, like a two to 5 gallon, then this is
the one. It does not have the net around it, if what you want
to isolate is very tiny. But for a small tetra for to isolate
a couple of fish, when you have a small tank, then it is
perfect.
