Judging by the other reviews, there seems to be some confusion as to the purpose of these ear buds. They are designed to listen to music in high noise environments. They are not meant to be 'normal' ear buds that you wear while working out or around the house.

I was looking for something that I could wear while mowing the lawn that would offer good hearing protection, allow me to listen to music, and work with safety glasses. When I first set out to find something that fit those criteria I thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong, I went through several things before I finally found these.

Pros:
-Block a lot of background noise. Either 20 or 29 db depending on the ear tip that you use. (Plain, foam hearing protection give about 29db of protection)
-Replaceable/interchangeable tips. As mentioned above, there are options with the ear tips that you can use. One is more comfortable and the other offers more noise blocking. In either case it's nice to be able to replace them if they become dirty or worn.
-Nice sound. I am not an audiophile, so my standards might be lower then others, but I find that these sound pretty good. I have used bad headphones in the past where the poor sound quality bothered me, that is not the case here.
-Volume control. I use my phone to stream music while I cut the grass, it's great to not have to pull my phone out of my pocket to adjust the volume.
-WORK WITH SAFETY GLASSES. Sorry for the caps, but I can not over state the importance of this (at least to me). Muff style hearing protection doesn't work well with safety glasses (or most regular glasses) because the arm of the glasses interferes with seal of the muff around the ear.

I bought these because the manufacturing plant I work for requires them if you want to listen to music at work. Product arrived in factory packaging in an Amazon.com box. They work great and are perfect for drowning out annoying coworkers.

I use these when mowing, in the wood shop, and at race tracks. They're a lot cooler and lighter than muff-type devices, and they reduce the noise level more. I've had two sets over the last 5 years, and greatly prefer the new foam plugs over the silicone, as they block far more noise. Both styles are available as replacements.

I bought these becasue buds dont stay in my ears. The design is great. These headphones have a volume control that is pretty big. First observation that when doing something like treadmilling, the volume control keeps bounding off my chest which was annoying. There is clip, but it kept falling off the wire. Each time I used the phones, it seemed that the volume coming to my ears was less. By the fourth use, I can't hear enough and bought a different pair from Amazon that doesnt have the volume control and they work great. This design is really good at staying in my ears and also eliminating outside noise like mowing the lawn.

After trying everything, the Peltors with Skull Screw earbuds are the best motorcycle earphones ever. A little music and a lot of quiet. A hint of traffic and you can almost hear the bike engine...it's so serene that it's almost eerie. I'm hooked.

I run a landscaping company and spend a lot of time on a commercial mower and have tried several types of head phones to block out the noise so I can hear my ipod, these are by far the best. With the skull screws the noise reduction is impressive and rivals that of foam ear plugs or any hearing protection, the mower is barely audible. I will say the sound quality is flat, but I wasn't as concerned with this as much as noise reduction. Overall, don't buy these and expect sound like bose headphones, but its clear and perfect for anyone who works around loud noise. Overall, I am very happy and would def recommend!

Wondering how the volume control worked (or didn’t work, in this case), I cracked open the volume control pod. These earbuds have an active, sound-level-limiting circuit located inside the volume control housing. The circuit consists of a PIC 16F677 microcontroller, many discretes and a 3-volt, BR1225 lithium coin cell to power the whole thing. Can you say overkill? The performance of this circuit is less than sub-par. The sound level constantly increases and decreases, in discrete steps, as the circuit attempts to limit the volume. Up, down, up, down...the volume continuously fluctuates. This, of course, is extremely annoying and makes listening impractical. The circuit also limits the volume to an unacceptably low level. It’s junk. I ended up removing the volume control circuit and wiring the thing straight-through. Now the volume level is constant and I can crank it up as loud as I like. I would not recommend this product.

These have made my work day a dream. i work in a very noisy shop, multiple pneumatic air nailers, electric saws, vacuum dust collectors.
i already have pretty bad hearing loss from the years before osha stepped in and really educated us by force the need for hearing protection.

I love listening to music at work but the only option was earmuffs over earbuds and even by osha standards this is not the best as the tiny wire does not allow a total seal around the ear. I have being wearing a LG tone headset with these tips cutoff and soldered into the unit to allow me to leave me expensive cell phone out of harms way and not have to deal with wires draped down along my torso which usually snags and tears either the wire or the bud out of my ear.

The tips are a bit expensive (29db ears screws) to replace , but they are very comfortable and it is nice to be able to replace them. average life per pair is about 2 weeks with the heavy dust and sweat and putting them in and out of my ears all day .

the sound quality of the drivers i couldnt really say much about as i am very deaf, but since i cut the two earbuds off the main headset i lost the embedded noise limiting circuitry that comes with these. that should be touched on, right out of the box most people wont like the sound level, i know none of my co-workers did, these will not rock your eardrums, the sound level is limited and thats kinda the point . with that being said they have taken all that my lg Tone has being able to dish to them (power/watt) wise and are still playing much louder then the manufactures ever intended. i'll add a photo for any of you who have some tinkering skills and a need for these as a wireless version .
