I suppose that each of us has a different taste for salt, but I prefer the Kirkland seaweed to all the others I've tried from Whole Foods Market and Trader Joes. The salty taste make this a better snack in my book. I'd rather eat this to satisfy my cravings for something salty than the high carb and calorie alternatives: potato chips, crackers, etc. which don't have the beneficial vitamins and minerals I need in my diet. I bought this at Costco for $7.49 so have to make it down a star for the high price. However, if I wasn't near a Costco or was not a member, I'd be willing to pay this price for this product since I get free delivery with Amazon Prime.

After reading about the many health benefits of dried seaweed (rich in Vitamin K, folate, iodine, magnesium, phytonutrients and carotenoids), I wanted to finally try it. I was surprised at how much I loved it! Each plastic container contains many sheets of roasted and perfectly salted dried seaweed. They smell and taste of the sea, but not overwhelmingly so. Each sheet has a delicate, crispy texture, almost like phyllo dough. They soften in your mouth and turn into a pleasant, slightly chewy texture. Each plastic container of seaweed sheets has 100 calories. A perfect snack, especially if you like to snack while watching TV/movies. Low calorie and healthy! I will be purchasing again very soon!

Now that I found these, I need look no further. These are the crunchiest, tastiest seaweed I've ever bought.
I am going to need to find a Seaweed anonymous group, though.
I'm so addicted!!!! So is my dog.

Update January 30, 2014: I discovered why Japanese seaweed salad tastes so good. It mixes seaweed, whether dried or fresh, with rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, just a little salt and sugar, a little ginger juice, sesame seeds and finely chopped scallions. No corn oil.
End of update.
...

This product has way too much corn oil.

When roasted seaweed products first got marketed in U.S. major stores, they contained sesame oil and later started mixing in canola oil and recently a lot of corn oil. They use so much that the thin squares are very greasy - way greasier than usual for seaweed snacks.

Corn oil doesn't work as well with the natural seaweed taste. The best seaweed snacks use only olive oil but they're expensive. The next best use only sesame oil. Then comes sesame mixed with canola, then sesame mixed with corn oil.

I notice when I eat some, I am disappointed with the taste compared to other seaweed snacks but my hands actually get very oily. Everything I touch gets oily. Also, this type of oil isn't agreeable with my stomach.

Update January 10, 2014:

Whenever I had guests, I'd open one of these packages and have them try. Nobody would try more than one or two. I could not give away unopened packages. I threw out the remaining packages yet I continue to buy several other Kirkland brand items when I'm at Costco.

Better than chips! I have to hide this from my 17 yr old son's friends. He says they ask him all the time. "Did your Mom get anymore of that Seaweed?"

Help the earth and taste buds buying this brand! I may be addicted to Seaweed. My plethora of tastings may help you.

The Details:

Ingredients: Seaweed, Non-GMO Expeller Pressed Canola oil, Non-GMO expeller pressed Sunflower oil, Non-GMO Sesame oil, Sea salt.
EXP: DEC.19.2015
Country of Origin: Korea

Kirkland Cost: .6oz*10=6oz | $14.80/6oz = $2.47 per ounce

Jayone Cost: .17oz*24=4.08oz | $13.78/4.08oz = $3.38 per ounce

The Review:

I'm not sure you will get the old ingredient list shown on this site on the picture or the new recipe Costco is currently selling in store. This snack is not any more oily than other seaweed snacks I have tried. Before buying these from Costco I was getting weekly shipments from Amazon of Jayone. I tried Kirkland brand because I saw it at Costco on my last visit and the price per ounce was half of what Jayone was. (The cost above is Amazon's price. Costco's price is about half that. Amazons price for this Kirkland brand is still a better deal than any other online seaweed snack)

The non GMO oils are a plus that I am more than happy to pay less for. The major difference though far and above is that there is so much less trash with the Kirkland vs. the Jayone. And this goes for most other single packs I have bought in grocery stores. I keep talking about Jayone because it is the best seller on Amazon, and the majority of seaweed snacks follow the same packaging size/product weight ratio. (Not all but the vast majority I have seen.) The Jayone is a little smaller than the Kirkland packaging, however you have to open 3 1/2 packages of Jayone to get the same amount of actual food as opening one package of the Kirkland.

Buying this is a win win.

More expensive than the ones you get at Costco but if you can't find them at your local Costco or don't have a membership to get in... these are great. They have more in the package than other brands.

I have to ration them out to myself because I'd probably eat the whole batch if I wasn't careful. I don't know how healthy they really are, I mean there's quite a bit of fat so they are not low calorie... but honestly I don't care. I eat them because they taste good.
