One of the issues I found with my first prong collar was getting it on and off. My dog does not wear a collar when she's inside, only when we take her outside. This buckle collar has made life so much easier for all of us. The dog is happy that I'm not inadvertently pinching her hair or neck, and my fingers are happy that they're not sore from squeezing a metal prong. Already recommended this to a friend who uses a prong collar as well. Very well made, heavy duty construction and simple yet effective design.

This is a perfect collar for the young German Shepherd I rescued. She came without any manners but had learned to pull and slip a conventional collar. It has eliminated all pulling.The slide and snap-in buckle with the lock is great. I would recommend this collar highly for when you are working with a dog but do I not use it as an everyday collar to place tags and ID on. Stacey

I find this collar a bit easier to get on than the regular pinch collar, where you have to squeeze the link, but not that much so. This may be also because my dog gets excited when she sees the collar come out, as she knows that it's walk time, so she's a bit antsy and squirmy anyway. I find the pinching action more effective on the regular prong collar. Without the martingale portion, this collar doesn't seem to grab and release as effectively as the regular prong. I don't like to do sharp leash corrections with the prong collar, but I almost have to in order to get my dog's attention with this one (She's a working line german shepherd and pretty hard). I prefer to use the traditional prong collar, since it seems to do a better job at letting my dog self-correct when she jumps or pulls on leash, and I am able to communicate with her with gentle leash pressure with the regular prong collar.

This collar is a LIFE CHANGER! My Dane pup (all 95lbs of him) was just a ridiculous handful. He was trainable on things that HE wanted to be trainable on [potty training, sitting for treats and otherwise [but not staying], waiting for me to put his food down before he attacked it], but was defiant beyond belief with greeting people [love attack to the point of injury], not pulling on leash, chasing my cats [no harm other than squishing them] and just all around defiant "jump and thump". This collar has changed everything. He walks like a dream. One turn around the yard [a snap each time he tried to go for a toy on the ground or otherwise not focus on heeling and me] and he was obedient. It even lasts longer each time after the collar is removed. If I need him to lay down while I work, I put the collar on him and his bed next to my chair and he never even tries to sneak away. Just accepts and obeys. KEY is making sure the collar is high up on the neck just below the ears. Lower like a regular collar no so effective. Another KEY is hooking the leash to both this collar and his regular collar for extra protection if they act up and one of the links comes free. This is not a defect, this is how they intended you to use it.

We've had Caesar (110 lb German Shepherd - pure muscle) for a coupe of years, and have tried a variety of collars. The one we've used most was a Herm Sprenger martingale long-link fur saver. That's a great collar, but Caesar could pull us off our feet if he took off. He has actually yanked me off my feet, on my face, and drug me across the lawn. A neighbor that saw this said it was quite comical:( One day at the PO I ran into a dog trainer who recommended this collar. It has changed our lives.

First, Caesar loves this collar. He's always looked forward to a walk, but now he's SUPER excited, and sits politely for me to put on his 'walking necklace'. The collar fits snuggly nestled in his fur. He shows no sign of distress or discomfort. He's a bit of a baby when it comes to things like a leash between his feet, or over his back, and has no problem telling us. If he's unhappy you will know about it. With this collar though he's very, very happy.

Second we can walk Caesar anywhere. If he decides that guy on a bike, or the cat in the alley is where he wants to go, just a gentle tug puts him back on track. It's a dream to walk him with this Herm Sprenger.

In addition this collar is extremely well made and extremely strong. The clasp is nice and secure and easy to open and close.

All of us love, love, love this. Highly recommended.

Love love love this product. These are the only prong collars I will buy. I had the old style and thought it was top quality, but after misplacing it in a move. I had to buy another well I went for this one and even better. It is easy to put on and to take off. My GSD pulled with all other collars used. Until I started using this collar. The pulling stopped on the first lesson. They do not hurt the dog and I am very big on that aspect. It will snap the dog back into focusing. It will teach your pet to focus on you. Now I barely tug to correct and she is very responsive without having to fully pinch the skin. Like I said it is not a painful product if used correctly. Only use it when you are controlling the lease. THIS IS NOT A LEAVE ON PRODUCT THAT IS WHY THIS PARTICULAR ONE IS GREAT. It is a breeze to put on and take off. I have never broke skin on any of my pets using these collars. So if you do or have it is from improper use and supervision. I will continue to buy Herm Sprenger as they are second to none.
