i had this configured for 1 min on, 5 mins off in an Aeroponic system. this timer would occasionally start an "ON" cycle lasting for several hours. this has happened 3 times, it has consequently killed almost an entire crop. sadly, i cannot find a reasonably priced (sub-$50) alternative on amazon. one time when checking the device because it seemed to be in an "off" cycle for too long, the readout displayed "00:X" where "X" was a backwards 7 (yes, not even a number.)

the day/light detection on the device is useless to me.

I expected more from a $50 timer. $50 is a lot of money. If you intend to use this for a hydro setup and require this device to function properly, my advice to you is to move along.

EDITED Aug. 28 2015 to add:

NOTE: I would give this product zero stars if at all possible.

I mentioned in my original review that I had concerns about the timers possibly failing sooner than later. Tonight, by dumb luck I may have saved my plants because of a fluke.

Earlier in the evening I thought I had forgotten to "start" the timer again (that stupid flashing clock icon that's impossible to see without a lot of illumination), so I made sure it was running again. The countdowns were working, so I wasn't too worried. I actually thought I must have hit the start/stop button inadvertently.

Later that evening I had repaired a tool of mine that I thought I had damaged beyond repair... yeah, sometimes I do that... and was putting it away with the rest of the items in the garage when I realized that neither the red nor green light was shining on the timer. I immediately checked the timer and tried to get it to start manually. The red light would flash once, and then immediately go out, and the green light went on.

Nothing I could do could get the timer to turn on my pump. I didn't bother going through a reset (this was around 1AM, and I had been about to crash for the night) because this was not acceptable performance from a vital piece of my system, a piece that has one simple job; Start a pump for 7 minutes, stop it for 53. Done. That it had failed twice at this task for two different reasons, when I had purchased this timer only 3 months before, made me lose all faith in the quality of this item. As noted before, if it had only been one timer I might have chalked it up to bad luck, but the other timer has also shown some odd behavior (I still get the occasional hieroglyphic-like display... actually, it looks more Klingon :P).

I have been using this timer for my aeroponic grows for about a year and it has worked flawlessly for me. I run 1 minute on and 5 minutes off with a high pressure system using Tefen misters. My plants are slightly moist when a new cycle starts and by no means over watered. I have read the previous review and it is obvious there is a defective timer or the wrong settings. Even before when using EZ Clone type sprayers I did not have a problem with over watering on this cycle. I don't think the watering cycle killed his plants.

This timer can be set to pretty much any configuration you like. I run 1 minute on 10 minutes off, it works flawlessly. If you have issues with it not coming on, check the lux setting, very easy to remedy any problem.

as others have stated, if u depend on this timer to feed your plants. do not buy it, why??? lets see how long my list gets beloe

erratic behavior an sometimes will short cycle within minutes even when the timer is set to wait 3 hrs for example.
small light changes will immediately restart timer cycle. this happens even when unit is set to do the same cycle day & night.
unit lost brightness on display few days after use. had same timer next to it for comparison.
unit froze multiple times. thankfully i caught it.

I bought this to control a crock pot that runs a little too hot. It worked flawlessly the first time, but then it just started doing it's own thing.

It gets "stuck". Sometimes it gets stuck in the on position and sometimes it gets stuck in the off position. Every time, I had it working great before leaving the house and several times my dinner was ruined when I came home.

For those that think that I may have set the device wrong, I did not. I made sure the settings were correct and had the device set to run day and night. I wouldn't trust this timer for anything. Spend the extra money and get something better.

First, I did not buy this item through Amazon, I bought it at a local hydroponic store because I needed something really quick. I've had this item for about 3 months now, and this thing screwed up once within 2 weeks of buying it. For whatever reason, the "on" function stayed on after the timer hit 0:00:00 and the "off" timer was counting down. Happened only then and haven't had a similar issue yet. Another annoying problem with this is that the number 4 stopped displaying correctly shortly after buying this. Instead the number 4 would display as the letter "L", very weird. Makes me wonder how cheap this item is. It's a shame there are no other cheap alternatives to a simple device. I may buy another through Amazon as I expand my hydroponic garden, but will definitely look for other alternatives. I might record a short video of the display glitch on this device later if anybody is interested.
