Excellent, Durable Volleyball Shoes

These are very high quality volleyball shoes, and are well worth the price. Before buying these, I tried on a few other volleyball shoes, including the Wave Lightning RX2 (also made by Mizuno). The main reason I was attracted to the RX2's was because of the lower price when compared to the Tornadoes. I liked several things about the RX2's, and there's a few things I feel they do even better than the Tornadoes (which I will explain below), but in the end I was swayed by the much higher quality and durability of the Tornado shoe.

The construction of the shoes is extremely solid: I have been playing with them for about 2 months now, and they have held up exceptionally, with only minor, superficial wear showing on the tips of the toes (which is to be expected when you do dives). The seams are all of the highest quality, and of the outer portion of the shoe is covered in a durable rubber-mesh combination. One of my favorite things about this shoe is the mesh that is featured above and beside the toe area. The location of the mesh not only keeps your feet cool, but also prevents creases from forming (on the RX2's, this area of the toe did NOT have mesh, and when I walked or jumped in them, the bending of the shoes almost immediately caused a crease to form on the outer surface of the toe).

The grip on these things is great. While wearing them, I feel confident on my approaches and take-offs, and am able to make quick, nimble maneuvers around the court. HOWEVER, I found the grip on the RX2's to actually be better than it is on these shoes (this is one of the few areas where the RX2's surpassed the Tornadoes). Still, the difference was not great enough for me to forgo the MUCH higher quality and durability of the Tornado shoes.Read more ›

Awesome shoes

I normally wear a size 10 women's shoe, but women's volleyball sneakers are too narrow for me. I opted to getting a men's shoe instead because of the default wider shoe. I got them in size 8.5. When I first put them on, they felt really snug around the wider part of my foot. I wore them around the house a couple of times to stretch out the leather. By day 3 of wearing them, they were good to go. I've now worn them through a volleyball tournament and a couple of practices, and they are comfortable and supportive.

For the last two years, I had a pair of Asic volleyball sneakers, but I found after every practice/tournament, my knees were really achy. I wore the same Asic sneakers for my first tournament this year, and my knees and back were so sore I needed to find new sneakers. By the next weekend, I had these Mizuno sneakers and did not experience knee/back pain afterwards.

Best shoe

I bought these because my ankle has been hurting me for 6 months. Two weeks of wearing these and it's gone. These shoes really reduce impact and shock. I will never go back to a standard volleyball shoe. I don't care what these things cost.

So far so good, but still early

So far, they seem to fit and support well, but I've only had them a week. They breath well and seem light weight. I got them specifically to play volleyball. My biggest concern is cosmetic...the blue on the front right toe is starting to rub off. Not sure why, but will be monitoring it to see what it means.

Seems like a great shoe but it is noticeably heavy

I just bought and tried these on along with two Adidas men's volleyball shoes. Of the three, these were the best. These have a lot of structure and grip. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that these are heavy. I weighed these against my old pair of Mizuno Lightning 6 so I'm not imagining it. You would expect shoes by the same manufacturer to become lighter as newer models are introduced. Not to mention these are a more expensive line than the Lightning. I will keep these and I'm sure they will be just fine but buyers should be aware.

Upgrade from Mizuo Men's Wave Tornado 3

I'll start by saying that I have worn the Wave Tornado 3 for the past 5 years and absolutely loved them. However they were getting old and were starting to fall apart after 5 years of hard use. I purchased the Wave Tornado 8 to replace them, and they perform just as great as the previous model.

Very comfortable shoes. They were a little stiff the first 2 or 3 times, but once I broke them in the formed to my foot very well. The soles provide excellent traction, even on some slightly dusty gym floors.They look amazing! I have had several compliments on how awesome these shoes look.

I would highly recommend these shoes for indoor volleyball.

High risk, high reward

So far so good. I've used them only 4 times so far (and one of those times was a 7-hour tournament with pretty much nonstop matches) and they have been awesome. They are very well made and light. Feels like I'm getting up a bit higher with them. Only negative I can say is that they provide absolutely NO ankle protection, so you are taking a risk every time you play, (unless you wear active ankles). For me, I have played my years out in both HS and college, so a sprained ankle won't exactly be the end of the world for me; so I am simply reeping the awesome rewards of these shoes with the hopes of staying lucky and not rolling an ankle. Anyways, they fit to size, look and feel awesome, and help out your game a bit, so definitely get them if you can.
