I can't say enough about the quality, taste and texture of this corn! The yellow ones pop into huge yellow puffs and the red and blue pop into smaller, white crispy puffs (look the same to me once popped). The pop/fail ratio is so low that it makes me a believer in this brand of popcorn.

Great popcorn! Especially the "Mushroom" which has an unusual shape. Very full popped kernels. Very few unpopped kernels and this corn works great in my Hot Air Popper. The Orville R popcorn (same name as the popper) tends to have more unpopped kernels and they tend to fly around a bit. This stuff behaves quite nicely!. Am buying more!

Like any real popcorn; this doesn't cook in an air popper, and doesn't pop in a microwave. Take olive oil and a decent saucepan with a lid, and you are in business. Keep the burner on low to medium temps, enough to bubble up the oil. Add something like Herbs de Provence with sea salt, black pepper, pepper flakes or Hot sauce (vinegar quickly disintegrates and leaves chard pepper flakes), powdered mushroom, etc. Test a few kernels and toss in the rest, stirring some until it pops, and stirring it vigorously once it starts the process.

Anyone saying these are small popcorn, or that they didn't pop fully (refer to my process of cooking it and you won't have this problem in the least,) clearly didn't take into consideration the variety. I bought this after a lengthy hiatus from cooking popcorn, when I last popped popcorn in an air popper when I was little, and came back after picking up the 'Tiny But Mighty' ancient heirloom popcorn (which I highly recommend if you use the same method as I stated;) the red popcorn in this sampler is just a bit larger than the TBM corn. The "mushroom" popcorn is easily the largest popcorn I have ever encountered, and by all means it looks similar to a mushroom with how it pops.

Each has their particular qualities, that are easy to appreciate and which are distinct in their own right. The red is somewhat vibrant and buttery in texture (and recall I was using olive oil to cook it) and chews easily, with a slightly warm body flavor. The mushroom as mentioned is a very large popcorn with a chewy texture, and a mushroomy taste (with or without adding powdered mushroom to the cooking process. The Persian blue if I recall was more vibrant than the others, and similar in size to the red.Read more ›

Hoosier Hill Farm All American Gourmet Popcorn Set, Red/White/Blue, 4.5 Pound
I decided to quit using microwave popcorn and go back to a healthier version of popcorn. However, I was unable to find a popcorn locally that popped well. Thus began my online search. I decided to try the Hoosier Hill Farm popcorn because it was a good price, and offered a variety of options. I have been pleased with this popcorn. The Mushroom variety pops up large fluffy kernels, but has a lot of hulls...that's a negative. The first batch I popped of it (at med-lo temp) didn't pop well at all, in fact only about 1/3 of the kernels popped at all. So, the next time I tried popping at a higher heat (med-high), and they popped well. The Ruby Red and the Persian Blue pop up small kernels that don't have a lot of hulls. I used Olive Oil to pop in, and table salt as seasoning. We like it!

I bought some of this for my dad for Christmas and he loved it. I recently bought an air popper and purchased some of this as well. I love it! Each corn has a different flavor and texture and all are great. Some have said this corn doesn't pop in their air popper, but my dad and I both use this solely for the air popper and it works great. I will continue to order this brand as needed.

got this to try blue and red popcorns, and the smaller whites. they are very good... a bit more chew to them...but not tough. good flavor! I find though that I still prefer the big puffy Mushroom popcorn....but these are tasty for a change of pace....well worth trying! would make a good gift for a popcorn lover.

I loveee popcorn, I have an addiction, and these kernels really fit my expectations! I like to have the 3 kinds to alternate. The mushroom is awesome, it pops huge! I heard the darker corns are healthier too. I think it's a great value - the package size is pretty average and will last a long time! The only thing is they didn't come in square pots like the picture shows, instead they came in a resealable red bag, which is ok too. Will be coming back for more!!
