    Lets get one thing out of the way. I run shoes ragged. I work all day and I'm on my feet the entire time, I walk on every type of surface you can imagine, I get my shoes dirty and muddy and walk on rock and dirt and broken asphalt and just... everything. I sometimes walk miles a day.

    I'm constantly on the search for a steel toe walking shoe since I walk so much I need a very comfortable shoe, I'm on construction sites often and need a steel toe. This is a darn hard combination to come across.

    These shoes are extremely comfortable, very close to as comfortable as my running NB shoes, they're nice and light and seem durable.

    My one complaint? The sole. I've already (after about a month) cracked a line straight across the sole, it almost seems like the material split. I've had this problem on other shoes so I'm not sure I can blame the shoe itself, and like I said, I punish these things. That being said, I feel like they should be able to take that beating.

    Keens have been my go to shoe before this, specifically this shoe here: Keen Utility Detroit Steel Peacoat

    The keens have never once had the sole crack on them, my issue with them have been the soles wear out very quickly. After about 6 months this shoe was dead so I was VERY excited to find these New Balance.

    The NB are more comfortable and look nicer than the keens, other than the sole cracking on them, they seem to be holding up better as well.

    For someone who doesnt treat their shoes like I do (almost everyone else) this will most likely be a fantastic shoe, and you'll be very happy with it.    Read more ›

    Sole split after 6 months. You'd think that for $70 you'd get more than 6 months out of a pair of shoes. I've worn New Balance shoes for over 25 years. Not anymore. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

    Finally I found a comfortable safety shoe. We have shoe trucks come to work but all they carry are regular and wide widths. A wide width does not come close to the 4E width I like. First day wearing the new shoes and I was pleased with the usual comfort I get from New Balance shoes! Thank You New Balance!

    Walking on concrete all day(or most of the day) and remaining comfortable is a tough task for many(all more like it) steel toe boots/sneakers. Only 2 have an acceptable level of comfort, it is this model and also a sketchers steel toe sneaker. Both are 3-4 stars. I honestly put them neck and neck with this NB model slightly edging out the other. I have the same problem with both shoes...Durability. They both start developing holes on the inside of the shoe right above your ankle after a semi short period of time. This hole will develop blisters quickly. The problem with comfortable work shoes like these two is that the soft material inside simply is not up to the task of durability. If you get an uncomfortable pair of Timberland leather work boots with a more durable inside material it will last longer but your not as comfortable. Simply put, your gonna have to decide between durability and comfort. Either spend more money more often to replace these sneaker type of work shoes or suffer through more durable boots. I am having and have been having a hell of a time deciding for myself. I seem to be wasting so much money ordering a new pair of boots every 3 months instead of once a year like most people. 3.5 stars.

    I've worn red wings for the past 3 yrs. and after 8 hrs. my feet were always killing me. Got these about 3 weeks ago, feels like I am wearing my regular shoes at work. I work 10-12 hrs. on my feet on concrete in a machine shop. Wish I would have bought these years ago. Even if they only last a year I think they're worth it.

    I needed a wide work shoe and these fit the bill. They are very comfortable and I have no problem wearing them the entire day. I have high arches and a high instep and they fit fine. They are heavier than a New Balance cross training type shoe, so don't be surprised, but that is to be expected with a steel toed shoe. The one negative thing I have about them is the material that covers the steel toe is much to thin, or not durable enough. As you can see in the attached photo the material over the toes has worn away to the bare steel. This started not long after I first started wearing them, but hasn't got drastically worse. I have been wearing the shoes in the photo for over a year. I do 75% office work, and 25% shop mechanic work to give you an idea of the wear I put on them. The white speckles are from paint overspray. So other than the toes, you can see they hold up very well. Now if they would just beef up those toes!

    I wear the sneaker version of these, and have for years. They look identical, and provide me my workplace requirements comfortably. If they wear as well as the sneakers, they will hold up for about a year(I got a pair that was too small for me because of the price. I gave them to a coworker who works in a harsh oil filled environment. They have held up admirably, and he loves them to death).

    I have never had issues with New Balance, and was really surprised at the INCREASE in quality for the DECREASE in price of competitors when I made the switch 10 years ago.

    They are professionally non-garish. I like pleasantly non-obtrusive colors. These fit my needs, and I would recommend them to a friend(never to an enemy).
