Style Name: Nikon D7100 (Mb-D15) Verified Purchase
I'm a diehard Nikon enthusiast. Started long ago with a little Nikkormat. Moved up to F2, then to F3 with motor drive. I couldn't afford pro models so I hang with a D7000 and a new D7100. Always buy Nikon lenses (except for a highly rated 50mm Sigma) and flash units. For the first time I cheated, however.

I did buy the Nikon Mb-D11 for my D7000. But for my new D7100 I bought this Xit MB-D15. I looked at the Nikon model and the other genereic brands. Decided on a knock-off given that the Nikon is made in China, too. I'm so happy I chose this Xit model!

I've only run through about 150 photos with this battery pack but all works perfectly: the pack fits securely and flush with the D7100 baseplate. The two wheels and all buttons function flawlessly and can be programmed just like the Nikon model. The fit and finish is identical to the Nikon unit. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Xit manufactures the Nikon unit.

Buy this with confidence and know you're getting a battery pack that looks and functions like the "real thing." But then enjoy the $200 you saved! I spent about $70 on this Xit pack instead of the $270 for the "Nikon" model and do not regret it at all. The only thing I didn't get was a Nikon name badge on the battery pack or the joy of spending an extra $200! Hope this helps anyone on the fence about this purchase.

It looks good and quality seems to be good.
The rotating controls had a positive action and feel good with proper torque. The joystick works ok a bit soft but useable. The AF button feels like it dose not have any spring action and very soft but it works.
I tested all functions with 2 freshly-charged batteries, and all was well. So I turned off the camera and put it in my bag for an early morning use. When I turned the camera on in the morning it was frozen and refused to do anything.
I removed the grip and camera was fine. Then I put the grip back on and it was frozen again. This time I took the battery out the grip and check it. it was depleted completely. I check the camera battery it was full. It seems that it drains it own battery overnight. This could explain why some reviewers had complaint about both batteries going dead simultaneously. I think the grip drains it's own battery quickly and then the camera switch to the internal battery. And the only notice it when camera stop working.

Anyway I returned it today. I have 2 other after market grips (meike) that work just fine with my other cameras.

PS: By the way Amazon shipped an open box returned product to me, This is only the 2nd time this happened in the last 10 or so years I have been buying from them. But both happened in the last 12 months. I hope the fulfillment operation is not going bad.

This item is worth the money compared to Nikon's poorly priced product. However, it has a few flaws of its own. The first is not good. Occasionally, after the camera is turned off then on again - something I do frequently - the camera ceases to function and I get an indication that the battery (ies) is (are) dead. Not so. It took a while, but I finally realized simply pulling the battery holder out just a bit and re-seating it in the grip made everything come to life. Interesting part: the camera continues to work until the it is shut off again. But I don't like wasting energy with the D800 as it eats batteries for breakfast. Curiously, the last time out the two batteries seemed to run out of juice together, even though I had the grip turned "off" 99% of the time, or so it says. I.e., it was off: no controls functioned on the grip and all it was good for was "gripping". I looked at the battery info area and see that the main camera battery has hit 79% with about 150 shots taken but the grip's battery has gone down to 85% with only 9 photos being listed as shot. What's wrong with this picture? At that rate the grip is not even good for 100 shots on its battery, the very same Nikon EN-EL15 is in both. I didn't take 9 pics with the grip - I took two with its controls and the grip turned on - otherwise it was always off. I had it with me more to check how the camera felt with it attached. Not bad, actually, but getting heavy with bigger lenses. I stuck to a 1.4f 50mm prime. The other times I've used the grip I've not paid as much attention to the battery use and the shutter button was very good. It has a very obvious "halfway" setting for focus and and easy push shooting, especially in the Mirror-up mode that I use in the low light I tend to shoot in.Read more ›

I have my share of experience with 3rd party grips with different camera bodies; zeikos for the D300 and D90, Vello for the D7000, Meike for the D800E. They all work great, cant really go wrong with $30-50 a pop (except the Vello which cost a bit more at $80). Way cheaper than the factory, holds up well, and works like it should. They all feel cheap, but that is expected since they are all pretty much alike across brands, for the price you paid for you really can't complain, as long as they work. In my experience so far Vello has the closest feel to the real thing, at least for the D7000. The dials have a grippy feel to them, and is built well and everything seems to fit seamlessly. And since Vello is one of the pricier options among the line ripoff party grips, I can understand why it feels better.
So this time I am trying out my D600 grip with the Xit.
Out of the box it looks just like the real thing, in the small details and shape of the grip. It has some weight (perhaps it even has metal inside I am not sure), pretty well built, has a metal alignment pin and fits great. Its rubber grips feels very similar to the Nikon, and that's definitely a plus. The button feels good as well. The shutter feels ok. However, if you look closer, imperfections start showing up. I see tiny crevices in the way the grip is put together, meaning it's not molded very fit and each piece of plastic doesnt fit perfect. The dials are cheap just like any other make, the rubber grip in one curvy section has difficulty fitting perfectly thus it looks as if it's peeling off a tiny bit, and lastly the battery tray of ENEL15 fits into the chamber slightly out of misalignment causing the locking pin to lock kind of tight.Read more ›
