I'm clearly in the minority here, but I just don't think this game is that amazing. I think the age range for this game is super duper small. My daughter is 5 and this game is way way too simple for her. It's good for maybe a 3-4 year old and beyond that, it's really basic.

Game play is basic. Roll the two dice - one with colors and one with articles of clothing - and then pick up a raccoon that matches. Get five raccoons and you win. Roll the underwear die and you lose your cards. I imagine that preschoolers may giggle, my daughter just sort of reluctantly handed over her cards.

So if nobody gets the underwear die, you can win the game in as few as three turns (one side of the die has two articles of clothing so you get two cards). So a game can take under 5 minutes with two people.

The other problem is that when you put the clothing on the raccoon you can't tell how many cards you have. My daughter solved this problem by keeping her cards next to her raccoon (so, basically he hangs out in his underwear with an array of clothing next to him).

There is also a "memory" style option, but in that case, you might as well buy a standard memory game. It was sort of hard to remember which cards had purple pants and which had red shirts - even for me, it just didn't work well. I will say that the raccoons and all the graphics are cute, durable and well-made.

This may be a good game for a 3 year old who needs a very very basic first game that requires very little attention span. But for first games, my money is on the 4 First Games Children's Game. It contains four different games in increasing complexity for only a couple dollars more than this game. With better longevity and variety, I think it's a better option.

We were excited to play Raccoon Rumpus as we have had nothing but pleasant experiences with Educational Insights' products! Our two young children thought it was a fun game, and enjoyed shaking the dice to see what they would get. They thought it was funny when they rolled the underwear and had to put their clothes back, and were usually good sports about starting all over with their cards.

Our youngest (who is 3 1/2) was a little rough with the cards at first, almost bending them when he grabbed them around the head opening, so we had to remind him to be careful. The cards held up to him thankfully, and he seemed to get better at handling them after a few games. We love that the actual raccoon base and head are very durable! Plus the dice are large so it helps little children be able to see the pictures/colors well.

It is a fairly quick game if no one ever rolls underwear, but then some games we played it seemed like that was all anyone WAS rolling, so those particular games lasted longer. We liked that it had a variety of outfits/occupations, from a girly ballerina in a tutu to a chef or firefighter in their gear. It was nice to reinforce color recognition and to help children learn about different occupations and what a person might wear while doing that.

Overall I would say it is a cute, fun, quick and portable game. It comes in a box that would be great for traveling with, or would be adorable as party favors if you had a raccoon/animal themed birthday party!

I reviewed this game for EI & it is SO cute! I LOVE how simple it is and easy for the kids to follow the directions. It helps with math skills, matching, colors, and more. My kids LOVE this game. No reading is involved so it's great for your youngest players. Really really cute game and for the price you can't beat it. It's perfect to toss in your bag for traveling too.

I got this for my almost 5-year-old daughter for Christmas and she was immediately enamored. She giggles at the raccoons in their underwear. There are many ways to play this game--beyond what the directions say--to make it easier or harder depending on the ages of the kids playing.

I received this toy to play and review with my 4 year old twin boys. Once again, Educational Insights did not disappoint! This adorable game has a little racoon character that is really hard not to love. It comes in a small, easy to store box with the directions printed directly on it. The game is simple for younger players yet can be modified to be challenging for older players. Raccoon Rumpus is another household favorite that has helped my boys with their colors, basic math, memory, and matching skills. I would highly recommend this game!

The play time on this game is perfect. It's not over so fast that it's uninteresting, but it doesn't drag out forever. The busy parent has time to play a round with their kids, but it's not so time consuming that you have to stop mid game to make sure the kids get fed, bathed, and put to bed at a reasonable hour.

Quality wise, I have zero complaints. The packaging is strong and great for storage between games (with easy clean up) and the pieces are well constructed to not be too easily ruined during play. You can tell a lot of thought went into the design of each "card" outfit. The illustrations are beautiful.

The game is simple. One thing I love about games like this is that even older kids (my oldest is almost 10) enjoy playing, because it's really a game of chance, and yet, it's something that younger kids in the house can play as well (maybe age 2 or 3) with help from a parent. Kids who don't know their colors can learn them, and those who know them can simply enjoy the game. The longevity of this game being relevant to a child is pretty good.

I was ambivalent about purchasing this game, but I'm glad I did. It's one of the better ones in our game closet.
