I needed a replacement for my generic Chinese Bass Pro folder and my Chinese-made Kershaw Select-Fire. I wanted something relatively small, lightweight and preferably with assisted opening that was legal to carry in both Michigan and Canada. My godfather has a Kershaw Chive. the smaller version of this knife, and I really liked the quality and function of it. I ordered the Leek in my favourite colour and don't regret it one bit.

The blade was near razor sharp out of the box, which is always nice. The first thing I noticed was how well fit and finished the knife was. The finish on the handle scaled is a beautiful smooth anodize, a little darker than it shows in the pictures on Amazon. The blade is, as I said, very sharp and smooth with no imperfections to be found. The Bass Pro and Select-Fire knives I mentioned before had rough edges and finishes and weren't as polished as this. I have nothing against Chinese knives, but the quality difference between them and this American-made piece is very apparent.

Best of all, the "Speed Safe" mechanism is reliable and opens very quickly. There's a convenient little lock on the backside to prevent the blade from opening in your pocket, and by its design it's legal in Canada. It's no doubt the best assisted-opening system I've ever used.

Overall I love the Leek, it's perfect for what I need (a light modest-sized everyday carry knife) and by its reputation I have no doubt it'll hold up well over the years.

It's a Kershaw, enough said. I've come to collect a handful of Kershaws over the past year or so. The design, material, fit and finish have all been top notch. This particular review is for the Orange SpeedSafe Leek.

The knife is shipped in a cardboard Kershaw box. Inside the box is the knife in a plastic sleeve with a little dessicant pack. Warranty/information card is included.

Initial impression is great. The anodizing is phenomenal and the bead blasted steel matches well with the orange. It isn't as vibrant as the picture shows, not a 'blaze' orange, more like a burnt copper. Gorgeous. The silver hardware meshes well with the orange. The clip is reversible, tip up or down, right hand only and is solid. Tip up carry will expose about an inch of the knife. The safety works but seems out of place to me. I used a Torx bit and removed it altogether.

The operation of the SpeedSafe works fine, slightly slower than the Blur, about on par with the Brawler. The SS actuator tab is small-ish but has adequate enough jimping to be activated pretty quickly. The knife pops open with a 'thwack' and locks up solidly. The blade is held in place with a standard liner lock. The lock itself is slightly difficult to access but isn't super stiff, which is a pro. Approximately 60% lock engagement on my model.

Now to the blade. This mother came SHARP. Bald spots on my forearm and leg, Very nice. The profile is thin, about 3/4 of an inch wide at its widest area down to a needle point. Don't drop this on your toe or you'll be en route to the ER. Jimping on the spine is so-so. The grind is nice and it's a very attractive knife. 3 inch, razor sharp blade. One drawback is the thin-ness of the blade.

This knife is just as exemplary as all the other Kershaw Brand knives I've bought in the past. The speedsafe opening mechanism is smooth and easy to use.

I bought this as a present for my sister who is also a knife collector and she was surprised and very happy that this knife performed like her standard silver Leek.

Pros: VERY sharp!, Strong blade, Good lock, the color options are awesome!
Cons: The locking mechanism is very tight. I needed to oil it (tiny bit!) and it loosened up.

This is definitely a great gift idea for any Knife lover and anyone who loves Orange!

This knife is not only a sharp looking knife, it also has a very sharp blade. The color is not the bright orange that is shown in the picture, but it is pretty close to the Mango Tango Ram 1500 that I drive, which was a pleasant surprise. The blade opens very smoothly and pretty fast. The design is sleek, it fits easily in a pocket without a bulge. My favorite part is that it is made in the USA. I am so happy with it, I want to order more in other colors!

Took a chance & bought this for my hubby for Christmas. Knew the kershaw name & their quality. He uses his knife for work & I knew it needed to be able to take a beating. He loves it. The weight is perfect, the blade is the right length for him & the locking blade is a nice touch.

Great knife. Every Kershaw I have ever owned has been great. This knife was a little bigger than I thought, but I am glad I got it, I actually prefer it to the smaller one I replaced. knife is super sharp with smooth once handed opening and closing

I spent weeks researching assisted opening knives. Which steel was best for me? What shape would fit my hand best? I was having a hard time figuring it all out because there really is a lot involved with the quality of a folding knife. I finally decided to go with the Kershaw Leek. I really like this knife. It comes out of the package very sharp and holds the edge very well. I got the orange model because I work at the Geek Squad and we have a thing for orange. after a month or two of every day use the color started to wear off of the handle. Quite honestly that is the only reason I marked off 1 star.
