The install was clean. My house is only a few years old and the wires are clean and tight. This device worked as advertised for several months.

Then today I come home and my entire house smells... funny. Not quite like smoke, but similar and mixed with a weird plasticy and refrigerator smell as well.

I finally found this plug nearly completely blackened with smoke stains. After shutting off the breaker and removing the device, it's obvious it melted to hell. Since the outlet was mounted to the side of a kitchen cabinet with drawers, I pulled the drawers out to get a look at the gang box, which was blackened with smoke as well. In addition, the wood around the socket and the interior ceiling of the space were black as well.

I checked the electrical wiring after removing the device and nothing was out of place. All wire nuts were secure, spread out, and had no exposed metal.

It's a miracle this thing stopped burning prior to catching the surrounding wood on fire. I wasn't home. This freaking thing would have ruined my life.

I should note that absolutely NOTHING was plugged into this device all day before this happened and, in fact, none of the outlet ports (AC or USB) had been used in any capacity in 7+ days prior to this occurring. It just went up on its own.

I'm positing from my phone, but will upload pictures when I sign in tomorrow from a computer.

I don't know if I'm going to be using these types of devices again. But, if I do, I'm going with another brand.

I was very excited to install this in my kitchen and remove some of the clutter that comes with having wall-warts hanging everywhere.
Unfortunately, after 30 days the USB ports stopped working. Just quit. The 115V outlets still work, so the unit has power, but I am very disappointed in this unit.

I pulled it out and looked for a fuse or reset function, but cannot find one, so now I just have a $35 kitchen outlet.

I tried contacting Cooper directly but they didn't bother to respond, and Amazon won't let me return it because it was after the 30-day warranty.

Not happy.

as far as plugging things in and charging you can't go wrong, however this outlet is deep. Also it has pigtails so you have to use wire nuts (takes up more room in the electrical box) vs the side screws. If your electrical box is small this may not work for you. I use 12 gauge wire for this circuit which made it more difficult as well.

If you have an Iphone or any other device that charges through USB, this is a great outlet to have. It is a high speed charging outlet, plus it is a 20 amp outlet for areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. I am putting one in each room, although I am using the 15 amp version where needed. This works great. The only downside is that the new tamper resistant outlets like this are much harder to plug electrical devices into because there is plastic inside to prevent kids from sticking things in. You have to push the electrical plugs in hard to get past the plastic, but this seems to be the way of the future with outlets.

I purchased this with a boat load of other devices for a non profit organization. Idea was to create an Audio/Video input panel that looked clean and allowed any presenter to plug any device for presentation. If presenters needed power, this switch provided power. If presenter's tablet or phone was running out of battery, the USB ports would come to aid.
I have personally used the switch and USB ports no less than 15 times in the last 16 months. The kids have a fortnight program and they use the switch a lot!
I would recommend it and I have plan to replace several traditional switches to this.

Junk. I first hated the three wire leads that I had to factor in the extra wire space in the box along with the wire nuts. Worked fine when I installed it but the bottom USB port started having problems. Then the top. It was always a PITA plugging anything into the tamper resistant outlets. Never had a problem with TR Leviton.

Works great. We use it to charge iPads and iPhones. It fit into the existing electric box which made it a 10 minute project. Works great with mixing devices but not really intended for charging 2 iPads at the same time but will manage an ipad and iPhone at the same time.

After researching products and reading reviews, I opted for this Cooper outlet. Easy installation, great features with the USB ports rated @ 2.1A, I have was able to charge iPhone 4 and iPad 2 at the same time. Only draw back I noticed was once the bottom outlet is used, the bottom USB port becomes "sync cable finicky". In my application, my monster HDP surge protector uses the bottom outlet all the time, partially blocking the bottom USB port, so I only get 1 USB port in my particular application. Overall I am pleased with this item.
