The Toe is narrow and the shoe is Wide. Not a good combination with the reinforced toe biting your piggy toe at every step. I can only suspect the factory workers large feet are the same as our normal width feet. Just saying.

I really like these shoes. I know it says "boot" in the title but it also says oxford which is really what they are, reinforced oxfords. I like the "boot" in the title though as my job incorrectly requires me to wear boots. These shoes broke in very easily, and are very comfortable. They are also the correct size. I bought a pair of boots a good while ago and they were 9.5 US but were shorter in length and a little tight on the sides but really nice otherwise except insanely expensive. I went with bates this time because a co-worker who just retired from the military a few months ago recommended them and I got a great deal on amazon.

The quality? Perfection. I'd rate that higher than a five if I could. These are not inexpensive boots but they are built to hold up. These are my second pair of Bates. I bough my last pair three years ago and they show less wear than other non-Bates boots I've worn for only a few months. The quality absolutely justifies the cost, and then some.

"... If they have a steel toecap, they will almost always be one size larger than a conventional fit. So for example, if you take a size 9 boot usually, you’ll need a size 8. This isn’t always the case, but it’s true for around 95% of customers, and is only likely to be different if you have a very broad foot AND a very high instep!"

I am a size 8.5-9 on my large foot, and size 8.5 on my small foot. For me, these shoes were 1.5 over-sized for use in hot weather. Typically, I'll step into a 7.5-8 size boot, and a size 8.5 for sneakers/tennis shoes. (Absolutely no smaller in sneakers/tennis shoes, as my large foot big toe will easily protrude through the fine clothe.) In brief, I had to order a size 7 for these shoes. Even though they are not steel toe, they are still a composite safety toe shoe.

The main reason I purchased these, I was getting sick and tired of always buying tennis shoes every six months, which would easily and always wear-out or tear after only six months. Later I noticed the cloth of my sneakers simply drying-out after a very brief period, and then will tear easily. Hence, I'm back to leather! I've had a pair of similar style Corocan boots, which have lated 10 years with only some signs of ageing as of now.

I also purchased a pair of Bates Men's Hi Shine Uniform High Shine Oxford, for wearing with some Dickies 874 uniform polyester/cotton blend trousers instead of wearing Levis jeans, for which the jeans also wear and tear too easily. (The polyester/nylon blended trousers are suppose to wear better or wear-out less easily.)

    PROS
    1) Tennis/Sneaker shoe model, but in leather.

I walk 10 to 12 miles a day on smooth concrete and tile floors in a manufacturing facility. Recent policy change requires supervisor's to now where a safety toe shoe, not just workers. Prior to this, supervisors could where a leather type shoe (nothing that had the appearance of a tennis shoe)... The 'SAS bout time' shoe was the shoe I wore for years (SAS is what a doctor or nurse wears)... The SAS's are a superb shoe that solved all my foot fatigue when I started this job. I work in the construction field so I have worn many types of steel toe boots over the years.

So, I decided to do some research on line first, versus going to a work boot store and picking something off the rack or just going with the brand names.

I heard the composite toe were much lighter than steel toe (which they are).... I didn't need ankle support or water resistant.... I needed comfort with no ankle rubbing nor toe rubbing.

I came across Bates which has been making military boots for years and researched that whole thing. Then saw this 4" tactical sport oxford work boot. I then researched the other MFG's for the exact similar size, type and style.

I than went to some local shoe stores to touch and feel. I found all the MFG's I'd researched (Bates, Rebock, Caterpillar, etc.) but nobody local had the 4" oxfords in stock, nor at a great price. So, I decided to order on-line.

I read all the reviews saying a lot of these boots ran a 1/2 size larger (for wearing thick socks and/or adding insoles). I also read the reviews about people with wide feet having rubbing issues.

So, I decided to order my normal size (9.5 reg/med) based on the previous review of this shoe...

Bates boot were standard issue while being in the US Navy. Now that I'm out, I still enjoy wearing Bates for work. I went with the low cut because it dosen't look overly aggressive while wearing shorts. Plus the boot is very light, but the thump sound it makes while walking make it seem like a heavy boot. The grip is exceptional, even in oilly hangar floor. Took about a week to break it in nicely.
