ATTENTION: Don't throw the treat away as others have, read below:

I first learned of this treat from a booth at the Portland Pet Expo, and it has turned out to be an excellent, safe chew for our golden retriever puppy. When we first gave it to her, she absolutely loved it and chewed it for 15+ minutes straight, which was quite an attention span for our then 11 week old puppy. The pet expo sold samples at a discount, but said the retail price for this size chew was ~$24, so I was glad to find it on amazon for so much less.

The himalayan chew is a combination of cow and goat cheeses, which is smoked for 7 months to produce a very hard chew which softens with puppy slobber. It does not stain, smell, or splinter. The only potential risk is a choking hazard as the chew gets small (what bone doesn't have this risk?). However, we learned a trick at the pet expo that most people here don't know:

DON'T throw away the treat. When it gets so small you worry about choking, take it away and let it dry then microwave it for 10-15 seconds. The small chunck will get 3+ times larger, and will be less dense as a result. Now it is safe again to give to your pet as a quick treat. This way there is no waste, and your pet enjoys every last bit of it.

EDIT: I have noticed it takes more like a minute in the microwave to fully expand. Your results may vary depending on the microwave power - just keep an eye on it and stop when it is no longer expanding.

Now that we have had two himalayan chews around the house for five weeks, our golden isn't quite as crazy about it as when we first got it, but she will still happily chew it over most of her toys and treats, and she hasn't finished either one yet.Read more ›

I think Himalayan Dog Chews are just the coolest thing. I sincerely get a kick out of these guys. They are so simple yet so unique, and most importantly, they make my dogs happy. If you're toying with the idea of buying these, I *highly* recommend that you do. I spoil my dogs rotten and experiment with all kind of treats and toys, and these are really, really impressive. For dog and owner both.

The bigger sizes can be pricey, but I'd buy. Utterly worth it. Luckily, I have littles, and for some reason, the bitty ones are a better value. Ounce by ounce the cost is the same, but with the little ones you get several treats instead of one.

I love that, compared to virtually every other chew on the market, these things make *no mess* and have *no odor*. They are a good shape and size for handling and chewing. The small ones are heck to step on in bare feet, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

My 12 lb papillon and 15 lb chunky dachshund can get a nice firm grip on a chew and spend a pleasant afternoon with it and there will still be enough for another go. I do take them away when they reach choking-hazard size, and I wish I didn't have to, but I get nervous. They are rocks, after all. But they don't go to waste: I save them up to give to my uncle's 4 pound mini Yorkie, because then they're normal-sized for her teeny mouth.

These treats are fun to tell your friends about. Doesn't "Himalayan Dog Chew" sound impressive? Far classier than "pizzle sticks"! Those things are the antithesis of these elegant treats.

My mini Pomeranian is a picky / messy chewer, so I never give him sticks (even though he loves them!). I saw Himalayan Dog Chews on Shark Tank and was totally in love with the idea of microwaving the end nub and turning it into a cheese puff. I gave the chew out of the bag to my dog, and he was totally in love with the flavor - it smells smoky like smoked gouda cheese. BUT it was really rock solid - probably fine for a 15 lb dog, but my little one was having a hard time and although you could tell he wanted to eat it, he couldn't make any progress. So I broke it into two pieces and puffed each one of them in the microwave (1 minute each.. watch it and stop once the whole thing puffs). He ate the ENTIRE puff and it lasted an hour!!! No crumbs, no stink, no sticky stuff in his long fur. I tried to put it away when he'd eaten half of it and he was heartbroken haha! I'm happy, he's happy, and nothing was wasted. Seriously what an ingenious idea... I will continue buying these and puffing the entire thing (broken in half) up for him!!

I've ordered these in the past and had no problems, but the last two I ordered have been unacceptable quality. One was loose in a zip-loc bag, not in manufacturer's packaging, and the other was in the right packaging but looks either burnt or rotten. Since they are unfortunately non-returnable, I won't be ordering them on Amazon again.

My dog loves these Himalayan dog chews, but this listing is a FRAUD! Instead of the standard packaging, I received a tall sort-of zip lock bag with a little slip of cheap paper inside that had the Himalayan logo printed on it along with some other text - some of it blacked out! Definitely didn't seem authentic, and it was clearly a long, long way from the official packaging pictured on this listing.

The bone itself - I was instantly suspicious. It didn't look at all like the bones I was used to - wrong colour, wrong shapes, wrong texture. It felt, smelled, and looked different. Still hopeful in the face of adversity, I set about cutting a piece off for my small dog, as I have done before with these large Himalayan chews. It was nothing like cutting apart the real deal - the texture was all wrong, it flaked and cracked broke all wrong... it was more obvious than ever that I was dealing with a poor imitation.

I gave it to my dog anyway, having gone through all that effort. My dog would usually go through a similar sized piece in maybe a couple days... this was gone in about 10 minutes.

This is a poor, near worthless imitation of a great product. I purchased from this listing because it cost a little less than some of the other listings. Spend the extra few dollars to get the real deal and avoid this listing completely.
