I've been wanting a smaller version of my current Bosch radio (http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-PB360D-Deluxe-Power-Jobsite/dp/B003H9MDME/ref=cm_cr-mr-title) because the larger version is a bit cumbersome for me to lug around. I am a very petite female & the large job site radio is nearly half my size. Trying to climb up & down a ladder with it is not easy!

So along comes this adorable little version. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. It has the same fault of it's larger brother - I think the volume could go louder. The plus is it's compact/slender form combined with how easy it is to move around. I can hold it in one hand while climbing ladders & whatever other chores I find myself engaged in without risk of dropping the radio or hurting myself.

The radio reception is pretty good. I am surprised at how many radio stations it manages to pick up in my very rural part of the world. It stands up on it's own & fits pretty flush against the wall. It is very easy to operate & is just about as rugged as it's big brother.

Unlike the deluxe big brother, this has no bells & whistles. It comes with the power adapter, AA batteries (to keep the clock running) & a very short auxiliary cord. The cord is almost too short. I use it to hook up my iPod. There is barely enough cord to lay the iPod down.

It does NOT come with the 12-Volt battery despite the fact that the batteries are prominently displayed in the item photos. Although the item description does say the battery is not included. Also the battery is NOT shown on the box the radio comes in so at least that is a little more clear. My husband says the tools themselves are considered "throw away" items & that the real money is in selling the batteries. This business logic makes me think of printers.

I picked this radio up for the hubby to use in his shop and garage. Here are his thoughts:

"1. Rugged it is! Feels like you could drop it and it wouldn't get damaged. The handles are off to the side and protect the speaker grills and the buttons/LCD are protected by the handles coming up higher than the control panel.

2. It's about 12 inches wide, 8 inches tall, and 3 inches deep. Weight: 3 lbs 5.5 oz with the AC adapter/Aux cable but not the battery pack.

3. LCD is easy to read and is back lit with a blue light that goes on when control panel is being used.

4. There is a short rubber, flexible antennae, that tucks away securely and is protected by the wrap around handle. Reception is great, I had a Sony boom box in my work shop in the basement, with the metal telescoping antennae and I was having trouble getting my favorite radio station. The Bosch PB120 had no problem, reception is great.

5. Two ways to power the radio via A/C adapter which is provided or a Bosch 12V max. lithium ion battery pack sold separately. I was not able to test with the battery pack since it didn't come with it. There is a battery port on the bottom of the unit that it slides/snaps into. The specs claim it can run all day on one battery charge.

6. The radio has FM/AM plus an Auxiliary port (short 7inch cable comes with it) so you can hook up your favorite audio source such as iPhone, iPod, Android, MP3 player, etc. that takes a 3.5mm plug.

7. It has a small battery compartment that hold two AAA batteries to keep the time current.

8. It has 5 preset buttons so you can program in your favorite radio stations.

9. There is a Mute button for when the boss is yelling at you and you need to pay attention.

10.

Pros:
1. Excellent, solid build quality as expected of a Bosch product. Feels overbuilt. I like it.
2. Very convenient to work with the 12V tool range, which has a number of excellent tools.
3. Small size. Light.
4. Looks pretty cool.
5. Tunes FM radio no problem.

Cons:
1. Weak "small" sound, really no better than an alarm clock. That's OK considering it's size, but it was not worth the trade-off for me.
2. No slot, door, or space to hold an MP3 player/phone. This is really inexcusable considering this is the year 2013, and streaming/playing audio from a phone is probably more popular than ad-infested FM radio.
3. No USB/SD slot for direct playing of MP3 files, but that's OK considering the price.
4. Incredibly short 6 inch 3.5mm audio cord. Even just a few more inches would have helped. Seems like some cruel joke from the product designers.
5. Powers up at half volume, which is pretty loud.

In the end, without a place to hold your phone, or play files from a USB stick, you have to tether 2 objects around. It's really more hassle than it's worth for the small sound.

I was looking for a tune box for my garage workshop and it had to have digital tuning, an auxiliary port for an MP3 player, great reception, ample volume, and good sound. This thing delivers all that, plus it's engineered for real-world use on a job site or in a workshop. Very happy with the performance and battery life is better than I expected. If I had to do all over, I'd buy this again.
