The Gripmaster is really nice. I bought mine to help with handgun control. The exerciser is well made with quality materials and looks like it will last a long time. There are exercise regimens for numerous sports and activities at the manufacturer website so you're not just squeezing blindly. When I do my 6 exercises I can feel the effects from my fingertips to my elbows. It's really made a difference in my ability to handle the recoil of larger caliber revolvers.

I'm a 6' tall man of medium build and I use the black 9-pound tension Gripmaster. I don't do all the exercises but I can do the power grasp, hook grasp, flat fist (ff is tough!), tripod pinch, thumb pinch and power pinch with the x-heavy tension. This is probably a good tension for most grown men looking to develop a stronger grip.

After using it even more, I can't overstate just how much of a positive effect the Gripmaster has had on my hands. Even typing this addendum is twice as easy as before. My hands are not only stronger but far more dexterous. I didn't realize just how dead my pinkies were until I'd used this for a couple weeks. I've ordered the medium tension one too for some of the harder fingertip exercises. If you'd enjoy getting a lot more out of your hands than you did before order one of these!

7/13/13 I got the green medium/5 pound one too for some of the harder exercises like flat fist. I can do all of the exercises now with these two Gripmasters. If you get hooked on these like I have you should consider getting a second one too.

6/18/14 I'm still squeezing! This is the easiest workout regimen to stick to ever. I do it while I'm watching TV. The springs are just as stiff as the day I got my Gripmasters. Great product!

10/12/14 I just ripped my first phone book in half! Just kidding...

1/31/16 Still going strong!

I recently had a wrist injury. My ulner nerve was severed. As a result my pinky and ring fingers have limited dexterity and strength. I bought these specifically because they have the individual springs for each finger. First off I will say they are very well-made, made in the USA, and Weiss Medical ships very promptly. I bought the 1.5 lb. and the 3 lb. I am 5'10" and of average build, and I will say that unless you're injured you should start out at least at the 5 lb. and maybe 9 lb. models (for reference, I can squeeze about 130 lbs. on a medical grip tester with my good hand.) But for me since I've had an injury, these two will be perfect to get me back.

Some comments about the various colors. The Gripmaster and the Gripmaster medical both have different color schemes. For example the regular Gripmaster 1.5 lb. is green, and the Gripmaster medical 1.5 lb. is yellow. Futher confusing issues is the Gripmaster medical shape; it's slightly different with a more pronounced palm swell. For me the Gripmaster Pro is not an option since it doesn't go down low enough in weight. I may try the pro version when my hand gets strong enough, and comment on it as well.

This thing is great for building hand strength for guitar players. Having individual springs for each finger helps as well. 5 pounds does not sound like much, but when you are using it with the tips of your fingers, it is quite a workout. Females may want to start with a lighter model and work up to this.

I bought this because I was having some tendonitis on one of my wrists. I could not open a door because it hurt and was uncomfortable. A friend of mine has one, he recommended it and let me use his (the extra heavy black color one.) Just in the short period of time I played with it my wrist felt much better, so much better I ordered mine (blue one) that same day. The shipping was fast and I'm happy and pain free.

I am a girl and for my strength I chose the heavy one. I was lucky enough to have tested the extra heavy one and thought the heavy one would be enough for me.

This little gadget works great. I had a finger injury that ended up leaving me in a cast after a while. My cast caused strength and flexibility issues in three other fingers. My hand therapist had me use these in several different strengths for strengthening exercises. I ordered one for myself at home and it's very useful for my therapy.

In July 2015, I had surgery to fuse two my vertebrae. Before the surgery, I had some pain and numbness in my left hand. After the surgery, I had the same pain and numbness, plus now my right hand was so weak that I couldn't hold a ballpoint pen or type on the computer. My neurosurgeon said I just needed to live with it, because there wasn't anything more he could do. So I bought this hand exerciser and started using it about every 20 minutes for about 5 minutes. Now, after 5 months, I have regained a lot of the strength I had in my right hand. I can write and type now. This company makes several "strengths" of exerciser, and I picked this one - a medium-resistance one - on purpose. It was enough to give a little resistance, but not so much that I had to work really hard to squeeze it. With this resistance, I was able to regain strength a little at a time.

I am a senior citizen (66 years old) and purchased the green medium-resistance Hand/Finger Exercizer in order to strengthen my hands and wrists (they had grown weaker over time). The Gripmaster is very well-made, sturdy, fits comfortably in my hand, and was fairly easy to use (I don't have long fingers and my hand is short and chubby; so I can't say how it would be if you have extra large long hands). The Gripmaster comes with a pamphlet that shows photos of six suggested exercises (a few of them were totally impossible for me, so I am thinking of ordering the low-resistance yellow Gripmaster in order to build up certain muscles). The primary reason I chose this model was because it is exactly like the one I used while in Rehab at a nearby nursing facility I was staying in after surgery. I figured if it was good enough for them, it was good enough for me to use at home!
