I've been using pillow speakers for years and have tried several - this one is the best. It has a nice thin profile and is plenty loud even without the extra battery for amplification. I like the fact that it's reinforced where the wires enter the speaker and volume control because this is the place where the wires usually fail and then the whole speaker has to be discarded. I plan to buy another for my travel kit.

I like to listen to audio books at night to help me fall asleep. This Sangean American PS-300 has an amplifier attached half way up the cord that runs off one AAA battery that boosts the volume capacity by double. I love this speaker. I can slip it my pillow case and drowse off to great stories without bothering my husband.

Although with hearing loss I was unable to hear anything under the pillow so I cut a pocket in the foam and because the speaker is so thin I can now hear perfectly. I leave the speaker in the pillow an cover the pillow with an non allergy cover and then a pillowcase and can still hear.

I replaced an old Radio Shack speaker with the Sangean, and am enjoying both the flatter profile and better sound quality. I would have liked the volume control to be on the speaker itself instead of on the cord, but it's still fine as it is. I don't need the amplifier and so leave a battery out because it's plenty loud without it. This turns the amplifier switch into a nifty speaker on-off switch, which is very convenient because the volume doesn't need to be changed to silence it.

I am very happy with how this Sangean pillow speaker works for me - it's much better than my previous C.Crane pillow speaker. The speaker is about 3" square and flat enough that I don't feel under my pillow. Most importantly, I can easily hear the radio through my pillow with no problem which I couldn't do with the C.Crane brand. The in-line volume control is very convenient - I simply turn my IPod volume to high and then adjust volume as needed throughout the night using the in-line control. There's also an amplifier that works great for those that may have a more significant hearing loss than I do. I use the amplifier once in awhile for certain internet radio stations that for some reason broadcast at a lower decibel, or occasionally a certain person's voice is hard to hear. I've been using this speaker for about 3 months now and I couldn't be happier. Now if it lasts more than a year I'll be thrilled since my C.Crane quit working completely at the 1 year mark.

Bought this item in February and 6 moths later the cord doesn't want to keep up anymore. The plastic that covers the cord broke at the base of the speaker and on one of the ends of the volume regulator! There are no wires exposed, but I'm not sure how long this will last.
My husband loves the product, so we are disappointed bc it looks like it's a short time enjoyment.

UPDATE: the cord didn't last. The product was good for 6 months and with the help of tape it lasted for 4 more. Disappointed!
