The previous G400 was a great mouse. It had a unique shape, great buttons, and a "perfect" sensor. What I mean by a perfect sensor is that it did not have any prediction or acceleration at normal speeds. Prediction is where the mouse decides it knows what you're trying to do, and changes your input to match. Go to MS paint and try to draw perfectly horizontal lines to see what I mean. If you can, then your mouse has prediction. Acceleration happens usually when you move a mouse quickly. For example, if you move some mice quickly across the mouse pad, and then slowly back to the other side, there will be a large difference in where your cursor ends up. The cursor moved faster than your hand when you sped up. But that did not happen on the G400, and it does not happen on the G400s.

Logitech realized that this quality made the G400 a fantastic mouse for FPS gaming, and they have given us this same great feature on the G400s. This is super valuable. It gives you a distinct edge while playing games against people using imperfect sensors. It is also to be noted that most professional gamers never use above 1000dpi. While laser sensors are more "flashy" and can do a lot more DPI than opticals, sadly, laser sensors have acceleration that cannot be disabled, making them inherently inferior for gaming. So as far as tracking quality goes, the G400s is spot on.

A few tweaks since the G400: The mouse now supports up to 4000 dpi instead of 3600 dpi. The buttons are slightly higher grade. These now are rated for 20 million actuations instead of 10 million. Not that I ever had a problem with wearing out the buttons on my old G400.

Things that did NOT change: The cord is still garbage. The G400 was notoriously bad because it would die if its cord was ever pulled on.

The MX510 was legendary! The MX518 was very good! Its cousin, the G400 was a lighter replacement and it has served me well too!

Looking for a newer replacement for the mice listed above? This G400s this is the mouse for you! :D

The G400s is my new gaming mouse standard! I also currently own the G500 Laser Gaming Mouse with Adjustable Weights and while I like the weight and tracking of that mouse, I do not like the wheel. It has zero friction and scrolls too fast. The MX5xx and G400x series have "notchy" or "resistance" based wheel tension which it makes it easier to control scrolling speed. Plus, it has been said that laser tracking is not as good as optical for gaming due to over acceleration which I tend to agree with. I'd rather not have to mess around with the tracking speeds. The G400s is essentially plug and play. I only had to adjust the speed "one click" faster in my mouse preferences and I was done. No need to mess with Y or X axis speeds or threshold max acceleration settings.

If I could own any mouse it would be the MX510. That was my all time favorite. It it had perfect weigh, tracking and wheel tension. But the G400s is very close to the other mice listed in price/performance and highly recommended!

I purchased this to replace a very economical but long-lasting laser mouse from iHome that was starting to miss clicks. I'd click or double-click on something and wait for a response, only to discover that one of the clicks didn't get "sent."
I've had the G400s for about a week now, but as of this evening I'm noticing that the left-click button feels increasingly stiff, and the clicking sound is accompanied by a second, louder 'click' that seems to be caused by the thin, flexible plastic of the button bumping against the larger body or the raised middle portion of the mouse. It's the sort of thing that doesn't (yet) affect the function, but it just *feels* so wrong--not to mention the sound is annoying. I'll give it a few days to clear up--perhaps it's just 'breaking in'?--and I'll revise/update my review depending on the outcome.

Update 4/22/15: After a long time using this mouse, I'm happy to report that the stiffness of the buttons has given way. It's been very reliable, and so far I'm quite happy with the performance.

I bought this mouse a month ago as a replacement for a 2-year-old Razer DeathAdder that crapped out on me spectacularly. During this review, I'll mostly be comparing it to the DeathAdder since that's the mouse I bought this to replace.

PROS
+ Feels extremely well constructed, MUCH more so than my old mouse.
+ External materials don't attract grime and sweat; I had to clean my old mouse off on an almost weekly basis, but haven't had to do so with the G400s.
+ Good weight balance. Has some heft without being excessive.
+ Tracks well on my SteelSeries mousepad.
+ On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment (or 2 extra button functions) is always nice.

WASHES
= Mousewheel. Objectively, it's very responsive and has a great grip...but I actually prefer mousewheels with more float that don't "lock" into certain positions. I can't really fault the mouse itself for this though, and I'm sure I can adjust.
= Seems designed for smaller hands than mine. The DeathAdder's hand position felt naturally comfortable, but this has taken a little adjusting to.

CONS
- Small forward/back buttons compared to the DeathAdder, and at a slightly awkward position.
- The cable, as so many others have said. It can't be compared to my old, braided cable for even a moment.
- Mouse drivers seem excessively large.

OVERALL: I've sworn by Razer for many years, but I'm very glad I changed to the G400s instead this time around. The complaints I have are minor and/or features I am still adjusting to, and I haven't run into any glaring defects worth docking a star over. This definitely feels and looks like a mouse which will last for 20 million clicks...and it'll be a lot of fun getting there!
