First - Through no ones fault but my own, I managed to have a problem that In The Breeze promptly took care of it even though they normally don't work directly with the public. It's nice to know there are companies that still care and don't say "sorry, we can't help you".

My first plan was to get a six foot piece of 1½" PVC pipe and sink three feet of it into the ground. On national holidays I would insert the flagpole into the pipe making its effective height thirteen feet. The pipe would be capped on other days.

The association rules guy thought the three feet above ground on non-holidays might be an eyesore so I wound up putting a three foot long 2" pipe in the ground. Only a couple inches are visible. When I fly my American flag now I sink a six foot piece of 1½" PVC pipe down to the bottom of the larger pipe and then insert the flagpole.

I attach the flag to the pole with a couple spring snaps so along with the rotating eyelet at the top of the pole, the flag does not wrap itself around the pole.

If you twist sections of the pole a little too hard while telescoping it, you might need another person's help to loosen them.

It hasn't happened yet but I'm expecting some of my neighbors to say they want one too and ask where I got.

This pole was is easy to extend and has already sustained heavy winds with no problem. I like it because I can easily reach the flag when I need to.

I ordered the 16 ft pole for two purposes. First to fly a flag on the fourth of July, second to support a possible assortment of amatuer radio antennas for temporary mobile use. To set the pole in the ground I used a "cork screw" type umbrella holder. That gave me a firm foundation. I went large at first. I Attatched a 5 by 9.5 ft flag. The pole held the flag with a bow in the top 3/8 inch section, the top section is solid fiberglass. The top section bent much like a fishing rod with fighting fish hooked. The lower, thicker section hardly flexed. A slight breeze did not damage the pole. I tried to add guy rope, but the rope would have to be attached to the top rod inthe middle of the flag, no good. Next I mounted a 3 by 5 ft flag. Besides the size this was a much lighter nylon woven flag than the first. The light breezes (under 5 mph) cause a slight flex in the upper section, but that is expected. I am guessing, but I would expect this to hold up fine in winds up to 15 mph for this size flag.
Now for the antennas. Attaching the ends of a dipole to the eyelet on the top segment caused the top segment to bow in toward the feed point. 66 feet of 12 gauge wire held ok, 123 feet is doubtful. using it to support the center balun is fine except that the weight would cause the top segment to flex somel. The top segment is too narrow to clamp a vertical antenna for two meters to (or a buddy pole type dipole). You can use a lower segment without raising the top segment, but you lose four feet of height with each segment you don't use.

The segments are held in place by you jamming the segments as you extend them. The segments are tapered at the ends. You can add a hose clamp to the joint, but the tube is not notched to allow a clamp to compress the material.

I bought this to make a Totem for Tomorrow World. I love how long it was and it felt nice and flexible to give it a bit of leeway in the crowds. If you are building your own totem I would not recommend this product. If you are just putting a flag on it then you should be ok but as far as something structural, this pole simply won't cut it. The reason I went for this pole specifically was because it complied with TW rules about not having a metal pole. I saw a bunch of metal ones while I was there so maybe next year I will roll the dice.

The pole itself didn't survive the car ride out to the festival. When I took it out of the car it had splintered and broken in half... sad face. I made the best of it and zip tied and duct taped it back together and it worked for most of the fest after that. On day 3 it started to splinter on me and after that (and a few other failures of the totem itself) I decided to scrap the whole thing and just take in the "glass" part that I designed. It still looked cool but for next year I won't be re purchasing this particular Telescoping pole

OVERALL- if you are just stringing a flag on it then this will get it done for you.... anything bigger, not so much.

After reading some previously posted reviews that almost cause me not to purchase this pole, I wanted to post my comments after doing so and clarify, at least from my experience and perspective. This is a very nice heavy duty pole to be sure. We live on a somewhat windy bluff on an island, and I love having good sized wind socks at decent heights to enjoy the breezes off the water. So this pole does withstand the breezes that we do get off the water. But a previously posted comment about it not bending in the breeze is why I almost didn't purchase, but now glad I did. This pole bends like any other wind sock pole, and certainly relative to its size, height, and expectations. I'm not sure if they were looking for more of a fly fishing rod type response, but I certainly am not. This pole bends all I'd want it to and looks beautiful with the medium to quite large wind socks attached to it that we use. Am not disappointed!
