"Brasso" has recently undergone a formula change, and unfortunately the new formula no longer does the job.

Brasso now only works if the brass is smudge-free to begin with. Any brass that contains smudges will not be satisfactorily cleaned and polished with this new formula.

As long as the brass is only dull, and NOT smudged, the new formula will work. But most people buy brasso to remove smudges (which it did very well prior to the formula change).

If brasso does not return to the old formula, or at least offer it as an alternative product - perhaps they could name it "Classic Brasso" - then I will never be buying it again or recommending it ever again (I have been recommending it since the 1970's).

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I've used Brasso for 40 years, more or less, since I was in the Army. Recently ran out and got a bottle of this newest version. It's pretty much worthless. It's more like a cream and the solvent dries out very, very quickly. If you have any serious polishing to do, it's dry before you get a good start. And the rag it's on has a big dry, scaly patch so you have to start it in a new spot. I can't seem to find the "old version" and this new stuff is only good for a very small, quick spot to clean up; pretty much totally worthless. It's sad that a company that makes a great product for so long has to go and screw it up; I'm sure their bottom line will suffer - it deserves to.

I've used Brasso for years to clean and polish brass. I just ran out of Brasso in the can and bought the new product in the plastic container. The new Brasso formula is nowhere near as good as the old Brasso. The creamy new white stuff just doesn't cut through the tough stains like the old Brasso. I won't be buying any more of the new stuff and will start looking for a replacement.

Brasso USED to be the best polish I could buy for my purposes. That's no longer true however. A NEW formula was introduced for Brasso within the last few years and the new stuff (packaged in plastic bottles) is nowhere close in performance to the old formula. Almost impossible now to find left-over stock of this polish in the metal cans....and sadly, the new formula is a waste of money.

I started using Brasso more than 50 years ago when I was in the Navy, and have used it ever since.

I ran out of my last metal can of Brasso and purchased the new plastic bottle and sadly, it is tha last time I will ever buy the product.

When I tried the new formula on my brass andirons, I just got a kind of gray residue when polishing, and a dull shine.

My wife said, "why not take the old can old of the trash and see if you can scrape out what's on the bottom", so I did. (Wives can be good)

The result with what I scraped out of the can gives a perfect comparison and demonstrates how lousy the new stuff is.

When I used the old remaining metal can leftover, I got the good old black tarnish on the cloth and the andirons turned out beautifully as in the past.

Since I threw away the receipt (thinking I was getting the same old great product) I guess I can't return the new formula to the hardware store, so the old metal can and the new (almost full) can both go into the trash.

Brasso's days are numbered if they think they can keep customers with this worthless goo. BTW, I didn't like the new plastic container either.

This stuff is crap compared to the old formula in the metal can. I'm probably just going to toss it in the garbage-- you know-- fool me once. Now I have to find a brass polish that works like the old stuff. The company that owns Brasso must be run by morons- take something that works well, had for a long time, and ruin it. Brilliant- too bad the shine on the metal isn't. Again, Garbage, don't waste your money.

After running out of Wrights Copper Cream I decided to try the old standby Brasso to polish some copper pans. The Brasso required three applications and significant rubbing to get rid of the streaking. The Wright's was a simple wipe on and wipe off process to create a great shine. While trying to locate something better than Brasso online, I stumbled on a simple recipe that works even better than Wrights: mix equal parts salt. vinegar and flour. Simply wipe it on and then wipe it off. Easy to make, easy to use and only pennies to make. Give it a try. For copper it will definitely work better than Brasso.

I am 66 and have use Brasso all my life. I had an almost empty can and bought the new one. Threw the almost empty old one out and proceeded to try to polish a copper plate and the results were horrible. I quickly retrieved the old from the trash. Used some from the old can and with very little effort had a beautifully polished copper plate. Next tried both on a watering can which is a mix of copper body with brass spout and handle. Again the same good results with the old formulation.

Has anyone found a good product to use on copper or brass? What a shame to see a good product no longer made. Those who have given good ratings have no idea how much better the old product was. I suspect the environmentalists have influenced this change.
