I love this pen...I like using fountain pens, but I prefer a more conservative look. This pen is perfect because it looks just like a standard cross ballpoint pen, but when you open it, it is a fountain pen. It is very narrow and easy to write with. The fine tip nip works well and doesn't clog or leak. The cap screws on so you don't have to worry about losing it. Perfect!

I love this pen out of all reason. The only thing I'd change is to have the cap snap on instead of screwing on. The nib's a little wider than I was expecting, but I've inked it with something that benefits from the broader line. It's very smooth to write with.

It's a Cross. They make quality pens at decent price points. This one has a fine point, gold plated nib (but it reminds me of a medium line on paper). The point glides over the paper, no scratchiness to be found. Its slim, fits in a pocket, the clip holds it secure. This pen is a little fatter than the famous ballpoint (which I also use and like) but not by much and it's not an issue. It uses slim Cross cartridges or the slim converter and those are difficult to find in your local office supply store, so you might want to order some from here, if you're considering this pen.

After this praise, my next comment may seem strange, for I really do like this pen but I prefer the Century II as a daily use pen. It costs a little more, but the fine nib really is fine. But you can't go wrong with this pen.

Its a great pen. Very pretty and it never leaks. I have also found that replacing the ink cartridges is a very clean process unlike some fountain pens and they last a reasonably long time. The ink flow is a little high. If you have cheap paper the line will be coming out kind of thick, I do recommend the use of cotton paper.

This was my first fountain pen, and I found that it exceeded my preconceived notions about what a pen could be. The only thing that I personally don't like is the fact that the nib is larger than I excepted, but it has not been unbearable. If you don't mind more of a medium line this pen won't bother you at all. Overall, I love this pen and definitely will be buying another cross fountain pen in the future!

Haven't owned a fountain pen since primary school (30+ years), so while I was searching for a replacement for my good old Parker ballpoint pen I stumbled upon this while looking at rollerball pens.

Since I type 99% of what I have to "write" and use a Note stylus for 99% of the rest it is considerably a "curiosity purchase" to compliment the rollerball I got for mostly signatures and the *very little* handwriting I do daily.

That said: I have very little to compare to, but the quality matches up to Cross quality (the one I remember using in the 90s). Even though I am not into things made out of gold, the accents are just a nice compliment to the polished chrome look I grown to appreciate.

As for writing: I really don't know. I use ballpoint and rollerball and a keyboard and stylus... I have no way to compare, but what I wrote with it looked very even, clean and nice (minus the handwriting that is of a medical doctor's or maybe a bit better :) ).

I would recommend this to anyone as a present or else

I am only giving this for stars due to the fact that they do not tell you you must unscrew the cap on this particular model. The cross fountain pen that I previously had the cap simply was pulled off and put back on to give you a longer writing instrument. You also have to screw the cap on when you are writing with this pen in order to have a longer fountain. This was frustrating as I could never get the top to align properly. Had I known this I would never have ordered this one. The four star rating is due to cross quality which is top notch and the writing quality of the fine nib.
