If you're thinking, "8 bucks (+ shipping) is worth me giving it a try" like I did. Don't. It's not.

This worked better than I expected, for the purpose of making the nut slots deeper on a ukulele. I guess it would work as well for guitar. I did not try it for cutting slots from a blank nut -- in that case you would be better off with purpose-made files.

I removed the "files" from the metal case to make them easier to handle.

Files are not bad but I hopped for a little bit more aggressive action. Besides they worked for filing a new nut which I couldn't find anywhere already cut to the measure I needed, cutting was very slow and painful. Any way, the nut came out very good and I'm very happy with the end result.

Driving threw my neighborhood I found a Peavey Rockmaster electric guitar. It was missing parts, bone nut was one. I had to buy a few blank bone nuts and cut the string grooves my self after finding one that fit the head of the fret board. This tool was a life saver. I couldn't find a pre cut bone nut for this Peavey guitar so I had to make one. With all the files I was able to use the right one for the string size. It tool some time to measure and have the string spacing just right, but taking your time and doing it right now its not a wall hanging guitar.

these are great if you intend to use them to smooth the bottom of the nut slot or maybe widen some of the heavy string slots for thicker string gauges..but buy a real nut file set if you are making a nut as this set alone will not allow you to cut the proper channels for the strings.

As soon as I opened the case, it fell apart ande files were all over the floor.
The files are so thin they bend and have to be constantly straightened and these are the two largest diameter.
Dont think I will ever use the smaller ones. Too hard to work with horse hair.

Ok, not the best files in the world, but for cutting guitar, mandolin, ukulele string profiles into bone nuts, what else you going to do for $10? Make precision cuts on nuts and bridges with the finest (dia) file set I have ever seen. Happy
