Sooooo much easier than fiddling around with a straightened out hairpin or a tiny eyeglasses screwdriver! Set one on the top-edge of the trim molding that goes around your door opening, and the next time little Johnny or Suzy lock themselves in their bedroom (or teen-age John or Sue lock you out!) you'll know exactly where the 'key' is to rectify that little sitcheation. Do NOT put it back in it's hiding place while John or Sue are watching. I'm jus sayin....

So relieved to find these here on Amazon. Our home was built 13 years ago, and we never were given keys for the interior doors. We never needed them until recently, so we didn't worry about it. But we now have our toddler grandson living with us, and his favorite trick is to hide in the bathrooms. We wanted to find these before he figured out how to push in the button lock. The trick with this key is, you have to put it straight in and feel the resistance of the lock before pushing all the way. You could easily miss it and think that the key does not work. It does work. We have four bathrooms in our home, and there is a key above each door ledge. Recommend.

These keys are a waste of money. I am certain that they work just fine, but a good key can easily be made at home in a few minutes. I used some 10 gauge electrical wire, cut to around 6 inches, curled one end just to make it look pretty like the ones here. I used the ground wire and the two plastic coated ones as well. I did remove about 3 inches of the insulation on the working end of the insulated wires. This gauge wire fits perfectly into the hole. Just place the wire over the small pin that you can't see from the outside, but can feel on the inside...place the wire over the inside pin, press forward strongly making certain that you keep your key straight (i.e. perpendicular to the door face). You will hear the lock snap and you're done. Note: you may file the working end of your new key to be flatter if you wish...but it will work fine regardless.

If you don't have any 10 gauge wire lying around, then you can use the wire from a good quality wire coat hanger....the wimpy cheap wire hangers may not work as well.

Another option is to use a jeweler screw driver, preferably one of the larger ones that just fits inside the hole. Line up on the interior pin, press strongly perpendicular to door face and done!

If you don't have anything like a small jeweler screw driver set, I recommend that you purchase a set instead of buying these dumb keys....that way you'll have a nice jeweler screw driver set for about the same money and can use them far more than these cheap keys that are only good for one purpose.

Yo...good luck. Remember this is just for Schlage interior door locks....Kwikset uses a very small common screw driver....here the jeweler screw driver set (with common ends) will serve you well here as well. WaaLa!

Works great so we can lock the grandson out of rooms he can't be in by himself, but the rest of the family still has access to a room, like the bathroom, as needed. These work perfectly to open the Schlage interior door locks.

My kids were using toothpicks to unlock the doors that my grandsons lock thinking it is funny. I bought these and hung them over all the doors with lock. They are perfect and do what they are supposed to do with no problems.

I needed one of these once. Instead of paying way too much for a set of glorified wires, I did the smart thing. I went down to my local Ace Hardware store, and bought a real skinny allen wrench for less than $0.50. It worked perfectly!

I hope this helps,
Tricia

I just paid 16.97 for a Schlage bed-bath lock, which is price-gouging by itself. They included exactly ONE of these with the lock! I thought it would be a good idea to have a second one (after all, when you buy a keyed lock, they give you two keys, right?) Why can't Schlage include two to begin with??
But I just cannot believe the price of these!! $13.75 for five of these bits of wire -- are they totally crazy?? And, why do they force you to buy five?? I refuse to do this! I will just cut up a coat hanger, as another reviewer suggested. Thanks for that idea!
