If you've never tried out any of Cold Steel's trainer weapons, they all have a few things in common. They are made of some sort of stiff impact resistant plastic that is virtually indestructible. However they should really only be used against each other, steel weapons with edges will cut them. Wood weapons are generally okay to use, though the cold steel trainers can do some damage to them.

This trench hawk is a bit light, and effectively blunt by comparison to a real trench hawk, but it's comfortable to hold, and really sturdy. The handle tapers a bit at the end to keep your hands from slipping, but I'd still recommend using some sort of grip tape on it.

The shaft of the hawk is the point that might flex if its to warm, so keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight (a car in the sun would be the worst, keep it in the trunk)

While these are meant for training purposes, they function as great clubs for personal defense. Proper protection and caution should always be used, since a solid hit to a forearm would cause a break.

THESE ARE NOT TOYS! Don't give these to your kids thinking that it's as safe as a nerf weapon, it is not! Check out some of the Cold Steel trainers, they smash cinder blocks, break cow leg bones and destroy pallets.

A lot of people who do airsoft like these for close combat side arms.

I needed an axe that was obviously a prop for a costume and this was perfect for altering! It's got a nice weight to it and shape to it. It takes paint well so if you want to be a badass Viking but not have a real axe, this is a great option. No one will run for their lives but you'll look awesome in photos.

Edited: So two of my friends also bought this exact same axe as part of a costume and painted and customized it. I've included a picture of how different our three axes look. It's a really great purchase if you want to personalize a prop!

Not a lot out there if you want to practice tomahawk fighting. In fact this the only one I know of. Bought this to go with McLemore's Tomahawk fighting book. As other reviews say, these aren't soft. A little padding would make this a 5 star product.

The weight is too light... it's a full lbs lighter than the actual trench hawk... that's nice if you need to learn (never have used one before) but bad for anyone who needs a trainer that is true to form.

Really nice training tool. Be warned however that the 'blade' on this is still a hard plastic compound and WILL hurt if someone gets struck with it. It is a rugged training tool and I use it several times per week. A few scuffs from some medium force pell training but that is about it. I would recommend this if , like me, you train with a 'hawk. Really no complaints here.
