Used in 97 Jetta GL 2.0 gas. My shift problem was not getting all the way into second, resulting in grinding, and I was hunting for gears because the shifter wouldn't spring back to the middle. With this thing installed, I get into gear all the way and it feels a lot less like playing the trombone when I shift.

I also installed URO Parts 191 798 211A Shifter Bushing Kit at the same time. I think the main improvement is from this item - the relay ball. My old one was about half the diameter. It looked like the original was manufactured to a smaller dimension rather than being worn but anyways, the new one worked.

I would rate this repair as a 3 out of 10 for difficulty. Pretty easy if you have a few wrenches. My car is ancient and rusty, so I needed a smallish cordless impact driver to get off one nut. Other than that, pretty easy. I used a 3M dry lube that goes on wet then dries. It has resulted in creaking noises, so you should probably use some other lube but I think petroleum-based is forbidden. You do have to get under for a few minutes, but most of the work is up top. Search for Dan's VW Page if you could use help - real handy reference.
