These shoes will change your life

After trying these shoes on in a size too small at my local running store, I promptly ordered a pair from Amazon. (None were available in my size at the store.) I have long, narrow feet (women's size 11.5) and debated about what size to order: women's 11 or 12. I went with my usual flip flop size, 11, especially since the 10's I tried on in the store weren't super small. Before I say anything else, let me say first that these shoes will change your life. My husband and I both do a lot of running (on average one half marathon per month and all the training this entails). We recently began full marathon training and I was finding that my bare feet were unhappy immediately upon touching the floor in the morning after getting out of bed. OOFOS have changed all this. Now when I get out of bed I immediately put on my OOFOS and I can almost hear both feet breathe a sigh of relief. In regards to the size of the shoes, it took me a couple of tries to get it right for this reason. When I tried the OOFOS on in the store, I tried them on in black. The ones I ordered were mocha. Long story short, mocha OOFOS in the exact same size are smaller than the black. While size 11 black OOFOS would have fit fine, I needed a women's 12 in the mocha. Also of note, I tried on some Telic flip flops in another store and found the same issue, the black shoes ran bigger than the navy blue ones. My recommendation: buy yourself a pair of OOFOS. If you're between sizes, it's safe to go down a size in the black, but go up a size if you order another color. These shoes are more than just comfortable, they're practically therapeutic!

BEST flip flops EVER! Super comfy for problem feet!

COMFORT - These are the comfiest flip flops in the world. I have foot pain issues, and these flip flops make the pain disappear, it is amazing. They are super soft and cushy on the foot, but also have a great arch support (a combination no other sandal I have found has). I just wore them on a vacation with LOTS of walking, and they made a huge difference. My feet were not in agony, despite walking at least 20 miles a day for nine days.

SIZING - I wear a 9 or 10 depending on the brand. I have wide feet. I usually take a 9 in flip flops (because I have short toes). I bought a 9 in the Oofos flip, and they fit perfectly (although any shorter in length would have been too short). My foot is exactly 9-3/4 inches long.

DURABILITY - You can wash them in the sink, which is great. I bought these just before my walking vacation, and by the end of it, there was very noticeable wear on the heels and the ball of the foot (tread was very worn down on the heels in particular). On the one hand, that is very fast for so much wear down. On the other hand, I walked at least a couple hundred miles to create that wear. Bottom line - while I wish the tread was longer lasting, these are SO comfortable that I have already ordered another pair, and will retire the somewhat worn ones to use around the house.

I anticipate purchasing numerous pairs of these in various fun colors. I hope they never, ever stop making this sandal. I will be a life time customer.

PROS and CONS

I have a very painful metatarsal joint in one foot. The best relief for this condition is a high arch that takes the pressure off the joint. I have been trying every shoe I can find from Clark's, Keens, Sanuk, Altra, Earth Shoes, K-swiss that even resembles support and comfort. Here are my thoughts on OOFos Thong Sandal:

PROS: These shoes relieve the pressure so very well due to their extremely high arch and my feet are feeling so good! CONS: After a couple days of wearing them for everything, my muscles around the front and sides of my hips are in dire pain that has lasted all week. Also, this is the first sandal/flop I have ever noticed to make my feet sweat.

Now I am worried that these shoes alter my gait so much, that its possible they may cause other joint problems. I am very torn. My feet feel great but everything else seems to be paying the price. I plan to stop wearing them until my hips stop hurting. Then I will only wear them around the house and see if this helps. In the past, I did have a podiatrist tell me to go get great arch supports and to start wearing them SLOWLY. So I really think I over did it in these shoes right off the bat. However, the arch in oofos is even higher than the ones the poditrist told me to get for my tennis shoes. I will try to come back and update this review in a few weeks.

APRIL 26TH 2014 UPDATE
I am still wearing these shoes. I have also be working out and walking since my original post. So alot of my body aches have calmed down. My feet are feeling better than they have in years. The best running/walking shoe I now own 5 pairs of b/c of the arch support and wide toe box ... NIKE FLEX RN 2013. As for my oofos ... they are the "go to shoe" for around the house walking.Read more ›

Fabulous sandals!!!!

After breaking my feet three times over a period of two years, I finally found sandals that are supportive, comfortable and attractive. I bought my first pair in a store when I was visiting up on the mainland so was delighted to find them on Amazon. I now have them in three different colors and wear them all the time.

Another wonderful feature of this particular sandal is that you can either wash it by hand or throw it in the washing machine. What could be better than that? I'm hooked for life on this shoe and will probably end up with a pair in every color that they make.

We live on a small island where I do a lot of walking, and we live over an hour from stores. Since I can buy these sandals on Amazon at the same price as the mainland store and get them in a few days, it's the easiest way to shop.
