This subwoofer is an absolute freak of nature. I compared this beast to the JBL PRX718XLF, QSC KW181, EV ETX-18SP, Yamaha DSR118W, and the Mackie SRM-1850. If I hadn't heard it with my own ears, I would've never believed it. This sub hits lower then the JBL and QSC, cleaner than the Yamaha and EV, and is in an entirely different universe then that of the Mackie. The lows just CRUSH and they do it very cleanly. This is by far one of, if not the biggest sleeper in the pro audio sub game. Can't say much on the wireless because I barely use it. It works.

BUT THAT BASS THOUGH.

If you're looking for something that will excel at pushing out rock bass that has a lot of borderline mid bass frequencies, this will get it done, but you might want to lean towards more the JBL PRX 718XLF. I would definitely listen to it before making a decision. But if you're looking for stupid low lows (and LOUD, might I add), this is the sub for you. With 1200 watts RMS (2400 peak), it has PLENTY of headroom.

Build quality is quite amazing. It feels extremely solid and won't break easily.

OH, BUT THAT BASS THOUGH.

Seriously, the build HAS to be ultra strong to withstand the amount of craziness emanating from this box.

Now, is there anything bad about this? Yes. Though nothing that is an absolute deal breaker for me (though to some, it may), this guy is definitely on the heavier side. I mean.... holy crap, this thing is almost 100 pounds. What makes it worse is it doesn't come with casters. If you plan on getting this beast of a sub, just make sure you have plenty of muscle or a friend to help when moving it. This is clearly a team lift if I ever saw one.

Overall, this thing is amazing, and for the price, I dare anyone to try and beat this thing in power, cleanliness, and sound quality. Once again....

THAT BASS THOUGH.

This sub is absolutely rediculous! It will blow your mind. I listened to several sub's from Peavey, Mackie, Yamaha, and Harbinger and none of them even came close to the smooth powerful lows this thing can produce and its got fantastic build quality. I'd highly recommend these to anyone wanting to produce great lows on a budget, I'd say the next step above these would be Cerwin Vega's.

I went to my local Guitar Center to pick up a few things. I WASN'T there to purchase speakers.

It took a little while for my items (cables and adapters etc...) to come out from their back warehouse area, so I had time to look around.

I noticed that the Alto Black series was super on sale since GC was trying to get rid of them. They still carry Alto, but not the Black Series anymore.

I was already familiar with these boxes. I have read all about them online, and I saw them on previous trips to music stores, so I was familiar with their normal pricing and their heavy duty build quality.

When I saw the price tag (about half off of normal price), I decided to ask the sales rep at GC for a demo. I was intrigued. The price was too good to be true.

First I actually listened to the Alto Black 15 tops, and they sounded unbelievably good. Second, I decided to check out the Black 18" subs, and again I was very impressed. The features on the tops (bi-amped, super smooth EAW-like highs, and the selectable voicing options) was truly impressive. The features on the subs (selectable low pass filter frequencies, EXTREME power handling, and selectable crossover options for the thru-out) were also very well thought out and usable.

Immediately, I called the "finance department" (my wife) and stated my case. These incredible boxes were almost gone at this price, and we should get a set of the subs and tops from GC while we can. She agreed, and I took home the last ones from the store that day.

I have owned powered subs from Mackie, RCF, and JBL. I have to say, nothing comes close to these Alto Black 18"s. They are simply incredible. They have headroom for days.
