First of all, if you are looking for a THX-certified system, this is too low-end for you. However, if you are looking for an affordable system that doesn't take up much room and doesn't break the bank, you've found the right one!

The box that arrives is a little on the large size, with the speakers in another box inside, along with the receiver in yet another box. The subwoofer is packaged nicely in there, too and everything supports everything else in the shipping. This was nice to see.

There is a quickstart sheet to help you in the setup, and it warns you at various steps not to turn on the receiver until the speakers are plugged in. As this seemed to be good advice, I took it. The speaker wire is packaged in the box with the speakers, and it is cheap, 18-gauge wire, but this suffices for most home systems. You can always buy more expensive cable if you so choose. Having a wire stripper is very handy with this step, though, as the plastic sheath around the wire is fairly tough and the wire is comprised of lots of tiny copper strands. (It would be really easy to accidentally cut through a few of those strands as you strip the wire with scissors or diagonal cutters.)

Connecting the speakers is a breeze. The front left and right channels connect into screwposts that also support banana plugs, and the center and rear channels plug into spring-slots. The subwoofer plugs into its own connection with an RCA cable, and then it plugs into an AC outlet separately from the receiver. After all this, plug in your components, connect the receiver to your TV, and then run the YPAO automatic setup.

I'm a big fan of 5.1 sound. I owned a Sony system for years and years but felt the need to upgrade so that I could get 5.1 while streaming things through my Roku 3, something my older Sony system did not support. This seemed like a good system at a good price so I went with it.

First off, it all comes in one big box. The big box has two smaller boxes inside of it: one for the head unit and one for the 5 speakers. The subwoofer is wedged between them with styrofoam support. It was easy to open and find everything, however the one big box was cumbersome to take up the stairs of my house. If you live up some stairs and have a bad back, you would be wise to make the delivery person carry it up the stairs for you...it's big and cumbersome.

It comes with everything you'd expect: remote, batteries, speaker wire, etc. They throw in some bonus stuff too like little rubber stick-on feet for any speakers you might rest on something instead of hang and some velcro if you want to be doubly sure a speaker doesn't fall off a shelf. Not a big deal, but nice touch.

Set-up went like any other sound system I've ever bought, with the notable exception that you have to cut and unsheath all the speaker wire (and no tool is included to help you). This wasn't a HUGE deal but my previous Sony system had everything pre-cut and sheathed and set-up time was WAY faster as a result.

Once it's all set up though, it's awesome. The sound is clear and you have a great degree of control over each individual speaker. The fact that the setup menus appear on your TV rather than on the display of the head unit is REALLY helpful. Years ago I bought a 5.1 system w/DVD player for about $200. Now some 10 years later I wanted to upgrade since the unit was old and somewhat disfunctional. After much research I find one needs to spend $400 to get a decent product (hopefully). The large boxes arrived as promised. The set up instructions were fairly clear for this old guy and had it placed, balanced and running in a few hours. It is true no speaker wires are included even tough stated. So, you will have to buy it your self. I got amazon's 16 gauge,100 ft. with the shipment. The speaker balancing system is perfect. Sound is clear with a nice range. I haven't tried it at peak volume as I live in an apartment. I am still learning to switch between different modes and setting. Once done functions should be a breeze. Overall for set up, price and product feel, it is a very good value!

system is a little complicated to set up, had to cut the speaker wire instead of pre cut lengths. lots of options...once it was set up it is AWESOME! the windows rattle and the floors shake all without any distortion.

I saved and saved for this home Theater. I wanted HDMI video switching and respectable, upgrade-able speakers. When I started pushing this system, it was clean, responded nicely and makes movie watching and game playing a LOT more enjoyable. Yes, it's not going to be as amazing as some of the really expensive models, but if you're looking to get into the game (pun intended) and not breaking the savings - order this. It's a great little, powerful system.
