TL;DR
- Far better earpads!
- There are still some issues with discomfort due to pressure spots
- They can not be adjusted to be much shorter, but can go taller
- The sound quality is largely improved, but:
- Bass is more elaborate but also toned down slightly
- Detachable adapter at headphone is amazingly convenient.

First of all, anyone moving up from the original HD681s will notice that the earpads are vastly improved, while still a bit moist (if less so than before, perhaps, it isn't quite that humid sweaty moistness) they are a much much more comfortable material, although after time they may feel like they need to be shifted around and get uncomfortable in that sense. This was a huge issue I had with the first one after some time, so again this is a case where it is perhaps noticeably better, but definitely still there. This is partially due to my head quite possibly being a bit small, and the headband can't be adjusted down as far on this pair, so the cans themselves tend to sit a bit lower than I need them to be. While this also isn't a huge issue, it is something some people should keep in mind.

Now, moving on, the clamping force is a bit less, although similar, which is good, because a tight clamp will produce better bass and less sound leaking, but the originals were perhaps a bit too tight and would result in a lot of initial discomfort until they were broken in slightly. Also, the new earpads separate your ears just a bit further, which means that they're no longer going to end up hurting after being pushed up right against the hard plastic in front of the drivers.

In regards to sound itself, the sound stage is bigger. The bass is deep, satisfyingly present, but perhaps not actually forceful.

I purchased this product based on a friends suggestion. By far, the best set of headphones I currently own. I do a lot of recording and these headphones are better than my casual headphones, my beats, and my recording headphones. A great buy!

I was pleasantly surprised with the sound. I wanted a set of headphones I felt comfortable traveling with. I own several Sennheiser and Grado headphones including Grado 225i and Sennheiser HD 598's. I don't want to lose any of them so the search for budget cans with decent sound led me to the Superlux.
Out of the box they sound good but after burn in they open up. They have good bass a bit of boom but not over emphasized. The mid range is present but some what recessed. High 's are available but also recessed. But for the price they offer very good listenable sound for background music but not for critical listening. I did find by removing the outer driver cover when I switched the ear pads it opened up the mid' s and high's.

While for the money they impressed me my igrado' s at about $10.00 more sound much more open with more detail and better mid and high range presentation. However, the igrado's are better suited for activities than for plane travel.

Don't be afraid to give these a try. They even come with a soft carry case, two cords, and an additional set of velour ear pads. The cans come with leatherette pads.

So I bought the m30's and I love the sound quality to them, but I had problems with them hurting my ears so I went ahead and bought these headphones. I love them wayyy more, the sound is just as good as the m30's, they feel more durable and most importantly, they don't hurt my ears as much as the m30s do. They do get a bit tight after a while, but awhile is a lot for me. I've been wearing them for the past 13 hours now lol and only now I feel the pressure of them. They fit all heads, even my 8 year old brother's head. They are great for sound whoring in games. Highly recommend them.

*Update
after one year the cable just died , i mean the little one that connected to the headphone sooo , i can replace it but it's the second time something broke in it , first a wire inside the left ear cup just popout of it place i just had to solder it and it was my first solder so it was
blood hard to solder while holding 4 things and to small area , i burnt my finger twice burned and broke two soldering iron and burnt some
of the plastic casing and broke clip that hold the cover (np there's screw that hold the cover) , maybe i was hard on this headphones since
i go like 2 to 3 pairs every year because of broken frame or cut wire or just died for no reason . i am just downgrading the headphone to 3 stars for weak wires inside the ear cups.

it's has good range . highs mids lows , the bass is amazing , and the sounds are so clear

I gave it 4 stars because it's difficult to change the ear cushions

but other then that it's amazing yea and they include in the box 2 cloth ear cushions and two cables one sort and one long and some papper and quarter inch plug with plastic peice
